Default painters/people in the know about paint

im sure ive discussed this before but i cant find the thread

im painting the front of my diamond white 3dr including the engine bay

my painter was over looking at it last night and we were having a chat about it and he uses water basecoat and laquer system .he will blend it back in to the doors but i need the skirts and bodykit painted aswell to get it upto standard.the arches were rubbing the cxns that used to be on it so need some attention.

am i mad in thinking it could be matched in solid again as my concern is the bodykit cant be blended in to the body?

whats the best quality paint also ,glasurit?dupont ? etc

dilemma guys

I would use glasurit solid 2k at least you can flat and polish to death and not break thru a clear coat.

I am sure ford painted all cars of that era in solid.

it would be great to try a solid again, but i dont think you can blend it in.

so maybe a 2k as you say

the painter did say to use a glasurit or dupont

i would prefer not to paint the whole car as the paint is pretty original on it ,but colour matching is a disasster lol

thanks for your input mate

You can have the colour scanned and it should be near enough.

we have to do this on old vintage stuff

Just spoke to our painter at work who used to work for ford back in the day.

He said no Ford's were painted in base and clear if they was a solid Colour.

you can have you paint spectrographed to match the shade.

Hope that helps.

My Saff is 1990 diamond white and original paintwork.A couple of years ago I had both bumpers re-painted and wanted them to blend in and not look new. This was what I got as the colour match is spot on. A top painter should be able to do what you want. My bumpers are solid paint only.

The painter I use does work on top end cars and is a Ford man as well. He has done work on many RS 500s etc where the customers wanted a flawless finish.
I explained to him what I wanted and due to his skill, not luck, he delivered. He will be doing the side skirts and some bonnet touching in for me soon and I am not worried at all that it won't be as good as his previous work.
Good skilled painters are thin on the ground but they are out there and once you find one you will use him all the time.
I thing I learnt was how many different shades of diamond white there are, I just assumed it was one but that is not the case. Colour matching is where the painters skill is so important, 23 years of polishing alters the colour as well!!

Looks great, the painter has done a nice job. As the paint hardens you will be able to get it to a superb finish with the solid paint.

One of the many diamond white colours!! At least if you ever have to anything re-painted in the future you know exactly what is the correct match.

Looking at this, they look so basic and a bit crap until you put the Cossie stuff back on and then they look so sexy.

Why did the Sierra have so many holes in the inner wing and why don’t we weld them up?

Makes sense. Crumple zones on 205 are just "we made it out of tin foil"

Can't beat the look of a freshly painted car. I just hope you don't mark the paint putting all back together.
