I am doing a lot of town driving and country lanes. Nearest shop to me is just under 2 miles so I jump in the car, drive there get my fags and drive back, think this maybe a killer for the fuel.
Yep that'll do it! Oh and I've just figured out where 17mpg came from. That's using US gallons. 21mpg is using UK gallons.
When I do purely town driving in the ST I get less than 20mpg. With a mixture of town driving and some A road / motorway driving it goes up to about 25-27mpg. If I do a long run I can get 30+mpg.

This is the car I am after once my leg repairs.....A Focus ST
How many miles can you get from a full tank of petrol Nick? I am getting around 250 from my Mondeo. Was just looking at MK3 Mondeo diesel auto's but it seems they have a terrible rep for injectors and the injectors are very expensive so think I will steer clear of those.
I average around 260-270, and that is a mixture of town driving with some longer runs on motorways and A roads. I've had less than 200 but I've also seen 300. All depends on the type of driving. I did a track day not long after I bought it and averaged 9mpg! A bloke who I got chatting to was averaging 11mpg in his M3, but I guess I was having to work the ST harder to keep ahead of him.
Bloody love my car, it's a PFL 5 door ST3 in black running a Superchips Bluefin stage 2 map with a 3" downpipe, 200 cell cat and a custom made cat back. Oh and the RS clutch (cos the standard ones are made of chocolate!). Had it 5 years now and I still love it. The five pot combined with the exhaust makes a great sound.
Incidentally, even though it's mapped, my mpg has not been affected.
Thanks mate. Can't imagine there's much difference in 0-60 compared with standard. These cars are not great off the line cos you struggle to put the power down. They excel though when you get up in to third gear and above, where you can really exploit all the extra torque that the map gives.
Also, the drive shafts are also known to be a weak point on the ST (I've had to replace one), so I wouldn't advise doing standing starts.
Exactly! I was a little concerned about mpg when I was thinking of buying the ST, as I had a Seat Leon Cupra Tdi that averaged between 50-60mpg. Once I got the ST though none of that mattered. As has been said unless you're doing loads of miles don't worry about. Get yourself an ST and enjoy that 5 pot
Just noticed, the pic was taken at Castle Combe. That's where I did my track day. Was expecting there to be more ST's there but I was the only one. Loads of M3's there though. Is Combe your local track? I'm in Bridgwater so it's the nearest one to me. Used to go there loads to watch different things. Their rally day was always good.
The only photo I can show off about is my engine as I think it looks rather good.....Well for a MK3 Mondeo
Took this pic' this morning.........
Only had 2 owners and mileage is currently 70k and has full service history and all previous MOTs.
Looks tidy in that pic, if you like the car other than the fuel consumption, have you thought about lpg. Claire has just got rid of a 2.5 ZTT that on lpg did the equivalent of around 50mpg cost wise.

Yes it is mate, I live about 10-15 mins from there. Used to go all the time but since the kids have come along I really struggle for time!

Sounds like you're in the same boat as me. Don't have much time for anything since the little'un came along, plus my wife isn't into cars and bikes so going to any kind of Motorsport event has for the moment become a thing of the past.
Mpg for my car and her performance is not the best, but pulls very well in 3rd from 60-100mph (on a track of course!)
My girlfriend had a 306 diesel turbo for a time, the non ECU one so not the HDI. It was a simple case of getting a boost gauge £25, an 8mm allen key and a spanner. Turn the allen key in the fuel pump clockwise about 20mm and wind the bolt coming from the actuator on the turbo 4 turns inwards, This took me about 45 mins to do and got the car from just under 14psi to 20psi! Used to be able to light the wheels up in 2nd whilst getting about 45mpg, huge fun for a car that cost a couple of hundred quid.

I remember a few guys years ago with the old 306 td. Young lads and it was cheap insurance but they made some of them go really well. One lad put a big front mount intercooler on one and seemed to go very well
I love my 2.5 v6 mk3 mondeo. I couldnt care less about mpg. I stuck a cone filter on it and it sounds mint ha ha.
Mines a big comfortable car with a bit of poke.
Same as Glenn, love my 2.5 V6 MK3. I have seen cone filters for the ST220 and ST200 but not for the 2.5 V6 MK3?
These engines seem common in America, used in the Ford Contour. Some of the parts are so cheap on Ebay.com, but the shipping charges equal out about the same as using our Ebay!
I used a ST17O air flow meter cause its the same. Then i just fitted my cone filter to the air flow meter. I made a box to shield the filter. Theres a thread in the pics section. My thread might be a few pages back now.

Yeh thats the one. As long as its defo a ST17O air flow meter. I had to file a bit of the plastic down for the cone filter to fit on then i had to use a rubber spacer to go round the other side of the air flow meter so that the orginal mondeo inlet pipe would fit the air flow meter.
