Default MK4 Mondeo Duratec Fuel Leak

Anyone had experience of the hard plastic fuel line on a Mk4 Mondeo 2.0 Duratec springing a leak?
Noticed a really strong smell of fuel yesterday and when I lifted the bonnet was greeted by a little jet of fuel coming out of a little pin hole in the pipe just before it enters the fuel rail.
I've plugged it temporarily for now until I can get a proper repair done, but just seems a strange thing to suddenly happen. The pipe's normally covered by a large plastic cover so is not exposed in any way

Here's the pipe in question, excuse the gash repair, but needs must...

Has the pipe been rubbing on the engine cover?

No. The hole is actually at the back of the pipe where it just hangs in mid air away from anything that could rub on it.

Strange that. Hopefully the pipe will be cheap.

Not likely. It runs all across the front of the engine along the other side then down the back and under the footwear. All one piece 😣

No, think it has a join under the footwell.

Found a part number, costs about Ł50

For anyone who has this in future, the part number seems to be 1523195

Thanks for the heads up, I'll check mine later. Out of curiosity does yours use oil? I'm forever topping up mine but it doesn't smoke or leak so god know where the oil goes. Just wonder if it's normal for a 2.0 duratec to use oil.

Yeah it does seem to use a bit. Checked it the other day and it didn't even register on the dipstick. Like you say it doesn't smoke or leak so I don't know where it goes

Found a post from a couple of years back where another guy had the same problem with a leaky fuel line, so it's not unheard of - http://www.talkford.com/community/to...-in-fuel-line/

TBH Glenn I personally think the duratec engines are pretty lame especially in a mk4 mondeo. My 1.6 Alfa 147 would piss all over my mondeo.

Are they the same engine as used in the mk3 mondeo or an updated version? I had a 2.0 petrol mk3 about 10 years ago and I remember that using about a litre of oil every 1000 miles or so. I did about 20k in it and never noticed any smoke, it always ran well. No idea where the oil used to go!

I believe it's the same 2.0 duratec that's in the mk3. Seem to be the norm by the sounds of things.

My mk3 2.0 duratec used loads of oil but never seemed to smoke. Added a oil stop leak treatment in every now and again and that improved oil consumption

I was toying with doing that. Was worried about getting the rubber hose clamped tightly enough round the cut end of the plastic pipe. Didn't know if I could tighten the jubilee clip enough with the pipe collapsing.

I'll have a look at it in the morning

To be honest mate that's asking for an engine bay fire. Seen it beofre at work a Saab caught fire after one of the local garages did the same. Burnt down outside out work round the corner from said garage
