Default All Nurburgring details now in this single topic......

I have collected all the info from teh other topics and put it all into this one topic to make it easier for folk to understand and get their acts together.....

PassionFord Nurburgring Convoy:

The Dates:
Leaving UK: Friday 9th September.
Returning to UK: Monday 12th September.

Arranged travel crossings so far:
Some folk are sailing From Hull on Friday evening. (9th)
Eurotunnel at Folkestone on the 7:58 and 09:06 trains on 9th.
Returning on Train from Calais @ 17:58 local time on 12th. Arrives UK 17:33.

(Chris (Cossymad) has arranged a decent deal for us with an agent called “Hermes Travel” on 01702 711336. Speak to Chris or Lisa and they should be able to look after you. My crossing at 7:58 cost me £111 return but the fares will increase by the day, so book now to avoid disappointment.)

Also, Bookings can be made on the Eurotunnel website - a "Short Stay Saver" return ticket at the moment is £112 for the 07:58 train going out and the 17:58 train return

http://www.eurotunnel.co.uk

Where to stay:
This is the best place to start IMO.
http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/where_to_stay.html
(Failing that, you could try the tourist info number further down.)
Many people are staying in Adenau (10km's away) and in Nurburg itself.

Issues to consider:
Don’t forget to book a hotel.
Don’t forget to book a crossing and a return.
Don’t forget your passport and insurance details.
Don’t forget to get EU cover on your car insurance.
Don’t forget to arrange some EU breakdown cover.
You MUST get an E1-11 form from post office to cover you medically.
Don’t forget that tyres and brakes will take a hammering, best to set off with new ones fitted IMO.

Facts and figures:
The ring is approximately 250miles drive from Calais.
From Birmingham it's about 8 hrs total drive to the Ring.
12 Laps of the ring will cost 144 Euros (around £100).
The tunnel crossing “per car” is approx £118 return

Handy sites and Numbers:
Local Tourist Office: 0049 2691 302610. They speak perfect English and are really, really helpful.
http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/

also, VERY IMPORTANT for anyone who hasn't been abroad before - like me.

you will NEED to get an E1-11 form from the post office - this is stamped for free and basically all medical bills are paid should you need them

Logbook
and the car itself

Please all remember not to crash.
It sounds silly, but the cost of crashing is horrendous.
For every piece of barrier you touch, that is £20 each.
Recovery from the track is dear, and they take no shit. Card details and a big fine. If you crash bad enough to shut the track, you get charged aswell, I think.
For those who have not been before, you must check out the website posted by Stu, the ben Lovejoy one.
It gives you a massive reality check.
For a 'newbie' on the track 150bhp is plenty of power. You might laugh, but I guarentee, you will get 'doored' by a Golf mk2 16v!!!!
The Nurburgring needs respect, all the GT4 playing in the world will not prepare you for the awesome track.
Motorbikes will always get in you way on the bendy bits (most of the track), and it is not a race. You should overtake with care and always on one side. When you see a faster car coming you should attempt to get out of the way.
Although it is a track, it is a public road aswell, and Laws still apply. You can overtake the rossers who patrol the ring regularly.
Have fun

This is the telephone number of the Nordschleife - save it on your phone in case you need it:

02691 302 215

Overtake on the LEFT only, use your indicators.

Pull to the RIGHT and indicate RIGHT to let others pass. If they are on your arse, let them past - they are faster. Nobody likes to get a lap ruined by a very slightly slower car which makes life difficult.

If you crash, leave the car and wait in a safe place, do your best to warn others of the danger ahead. It would be a good idea to bring a yellow flag or safety vest if you have one.

If you see a crash, pull up a good distance further away where it is SAFE, do what you can to help - first call the number above stating the km number nearest or corner name if known. Always think of safety first - warn others of the oncoming danger before attending to casualties.

You are not supposed to overtake during a yellow flag, and any safety vehicles with flashing lights should not be overtaken - I see many people ignoring these rules but I stick to them myself. If you see people blatantly ignoring rules and generally driving in a dangerous way, then feel free to report it.

Leave heavy speakers or anything else in the car not firmly secured at home or in the hotel.

Check the car condition over before every lap.

Don't let others or the myth get to you - drive how you feel safe, drive smoothly.

Be very careful at Adenauer Forst (can't stress that enough).

See you all there!

can i just remind people that no filming is allowed on the 'ring. just so you don't waste your time setting it all up.

obviously if you have a bulletcam that can't be seen by the entry marshalls you may be able to get away with it. but i wouldn't like to say what would happen if the police found it in a crash investigation.

My RAC upgrade to cover Europe was £62
There was a cheaper option but it was pure "Recover to nearest garage"

gutted at no camera rule
AA 5* cover doesn't include Ring so I suppose if the unthinkable happens a local firm would have to remove car to nearest garage then call AA.

come on guys!!!

Is there anything else to do nearby because 12 laps for 100 sniffs is ALOT IMO

so therefor for 50 laps your paying over 500 smackers?

hmmm i wanna go but my missus wont be happy if shes gonna be stuck in a car for 3 days!

That is 75 laps of English average track, which is very cheap actually
Go, stick your missus in the bar

Whenever I have been, the marshalls seem to turn a blind eye to cameras if you aren't blatant about it.

Nick, I'm not sure what section of the law the police would do you under, as I thought it was just a Ring rule... ?

We managed to get two laps on camera last trip. I know it's against the rules so my passenger was being a bit subtle about it, ie not waving it under the marshalls noses when going through the barrier.

you could be right mike. or they could construe filming of the lap to be timing it, and then it could be seen as racing. racing on a public road is illegal, both in UK and Germany.

not saying i agree with it, but it's better not to risk it

as for other things to do in the area...

the kart track is a lot of fun in a group and is a reasonable price. if the weather is dodgy, consider booking up in advance for later that day or evening.

if you want something other than driving, the Mosel valley is not far away and is absolutely spectacular. it's famous for it's wine, and there are any number of small wine producers who will be happy to let you taste their products and view their cellars or production.

not too far away is cologne which is a beuatiful city on the rhine. the cathedral is magnificent, and the old town by the riverside is lovely and full of bars/cafes/pubs. also in cologne is plenty of adult entertainment, including the famous pascha club/brothel. brothels are both safe and legal in germany.

near cologne is an amusement park.

the beautiful country of luxembourg is not too far away and should be worth a visit.

the town of bitburg is not too far away, famous for it's beer.

all depends how long you will be there, and what you like doing.
