Default Handbrake issues

Hi folks
build my mk4 rest bleed the brakes non abs. Got brakes working on the pedal. Just can’t get handbrake to work. Adjusted it right up, no luck, opened up hubs maxed out adjusters on fully adjusted cable still no handbrake.
Do I need a non abs handbrake as got non abs brake shoes, I am stumped. I have had an XR3i For 20 years and hand brake and brakes were always easy to sort out.

A point in the right direction would be decent

Kev

Not been involved with these, but I believe the handbrake cable will have an adjuster on it, could this be the issue?

I don’t think the ABS makes any difference.

you might have wrong handbrake cable, I'm doing up a mk4 xr3i at the moment, when buying new handbrake cable there was different options, ABS or non ABS, so there must be a difference in the cables
