well i drove an 800mile round tripin a pissin diesel headin oop country to pick up my latest purchase from flea-bay. secured myself a lhd, 2600 mk1 capri.

i could instantly see that i had let myself in for trouble! lol. and so the fun begins...

note 3.0ltr granada in the background!
we picked the car up from the shadiest lock up in the world! actually drove away thinking there was something wrong cos i still had my wallet lol.

started to strip the interior to see the rest of the damage. there was ALOT to take in. loom stage so the engine comes out next.

crane etc... blah.

if rust was silver i would be happier, instead the car is supposed to be silver and yes thats all rust in there. hmmmm lol.
well heres the hole......

this is the start.... plans due to current situation is to cut the front end off and spaceframe it. wings and front panels will be a 1 peice fiberglass assembly, fibreglass bonnet. the floor will be cut out and custom made, enlarged diff, trans tunnel etc. lots to list... more to do.
this is how she'l sit for a while, project is being kicked off the drive as expected. moving to a workshop within the week hopefully. more updates as and when etc. cheers.

yeah it will be quite a project, but thats what i wanted. i could have paid over the moon for a mint car that someone else has already projected but i never do things like that. no fun that way.
cars main purpose is nurburgring. then track days and santa pod will see a lot of action.
as for being rare there are enough still out there, similar situation as the mk1 escorts. good project shell, loads of potential and most in need of restoration.
cheers for the support, found a workshop for it to go into locally, ford service place is renting me a building. handy!

dread to think what chassis rails and sills are like!
Mk1 capris are the only ones i like, cant stand the others.
get it restored, get a ducktail spoiler on the back, and go caning it

nah engine bay is pretty rusty, strut tops are bubbled right through the thickness of the inner wings, then the battery tray is all bubbled through its mounts to the inner wings, front wings are about to fall off lol. sills arent there lol, theyve fallen out, rails are pretty hanging too.
love the ducktails, see if i can get one incorporated into a fibreglass bootlid.
youre projects are coming along well by the looks fo the pics 'itsmeagain'. looking good. well done. looks like youre having fun in the s13 too!

nosman..been watching your thread. looks awesome, very interesting.
nice offer there, u can pretty much guarantee to hear from me when the time comes to re-assemble her. is your front end a one peice mould or are they seperate panels? do you know where still does the 1 peice front ends?
wud love to yb her obviously, so many advantages with that engine but im 20 just dropped out of uni so money in that amount is not really there for that. most likely engine is the cosworth 24v out of the scorpios/ granadas. looking into runing the newer bob engine instead of the earlier boa version but you have to run the bob with boa loom due to complictations. hassle lol.
we'l see when it gets ton that stage.
the deal with the garage fell through. dealt with 1 guy who sed we cud have a key to the grounds and access the lock up whenever we wanted, then when we were finalising stuff with his boss he sed we would only have access mon-fri 8am-5pm. the hours that most ppl work, including myself. waste of time. so it sits on my drive atm while i sort other alternatives. not many around here so ive spent all the time sorting that and had no time to carry on stripping.
can anyone tell me anything about the engine that came out of it? its a 2600cc cologne unit. its not the rs version. what differences were there between the two versions. i havent seen much about for this engine. 2.8 stuff is plentiful but 2.6?
here it sits warmer but not looking much happier lol.

the silver one is going to the scrapyard in the sky on wednesday and later that day im collecting the blue one which is going to replace the silver one.
plans are the same, looking at some different engine options.
conclusion was that the silver one had gone too far, someone might have been able to restore her but im new to this game so....
cheers for the support.

picked the new shell up and its in its garage now. started sorting through all the random parts inside and stripping whats left of it out. bootlids at home so it can be sorted and primed so it can be stored out of the way. fibreglass ducktail. just need to decide whether to do away with the bootlock and just go pins?
will get some new pics up soon, work has been hectic again so not much to report. will get up there tmrw after tinkering with my mate on his xr2.
pics soon.
promise.

for your boot lock mate, you could use a cable release like i did.
if you get a cable from a petrol flap, and convert the mechanism slightly you can the weld over the lock hole.
mine works a treat, n the release is under the seat out of sight.

just some nibbles today, started early(ish) and stripped out all the remaining interior stuff etc, all the boot contents including tank etc, didnt realise how much stuff had been thrown in with the car. mostly un-needed by myself but nevermind. grabbed out all the wheels etc to give some space for tmrw. takind a set of front shocks, roll bar and crossmember up there to let me roll the shell in and out of the garage. can turn her around and start on the front then.
coupla pics from today....

fibreglass front end.. needs some airflow fettling, mk1 escort indicators already fitted.

bootlid already at home for some fettling also. thanks to 'nosman' for advice on this area.

sketchy image of the mess of parts etc inside, sunlight made for distorted image.

and finally obligatory side shot.
aiming for something along the lines of this:

but not quite as hectic, ie spoiler, mass wheels, and the extent of that cage is a bit overkill for the usage of mine, oh and without the v8, unfortunately.

woke up at early hous this morning so tripped it out to the garage to sort a few things before the day started.
got the loom out and left the heater matrix for tmrw:

this is the loom for the whole car... including the bay loom.. shocking:

bit of rust here and there. left and right front footwells, floors, boot floor:

one day she will be a weapon:

got the front suspension located today, crossmember will go in tmrw, then she'l be able to roll out and get turned around. work on the front is the biggest job so gets attention first.

quick one:
i dropped the exhaust today and let all the joins soak in wd40 ready to be dismantled tmrw. also all temporary front suspension setup has been bolted up to allow her to be turned around maybe get that done tmrw too.. then the real work begins.
started to make a mould of the dash today to make a fiberglass/maybe carbon one from. also picked up a pair of very good cheap buckets off a local bloke so their stored for her.
v6 from the first one is going next weekend so there will be room on the stand to start building the engine. ive given into dohc cosworth power.
pics soon.

alright nosman, a while since i been on here. yeah i rekon those 32
years have been pretty kind to me considering.
havent done much on her lately. rebuilt the 2.6 that came out of the first car so that i could get it off the stand.

seized caliper on the mk3 has also presented hassles.
should get up there sometime over the weekend so will grab some pics then.
should be fine to sort the holes etc, easiest way to get rid of it is to cut it out, so the front end is due to come off soon and be replaced with a tubular setup. building a nice pile of bits up at the house for it.
anyway... pics over the weekend.

grabbed a couple of pics as we past the garage today.
we got the front end taped in place ready to be joined into a fiberglass bonnet. just held in place to line the bonnet up when it arrives. blue bonnet is a template for the vent etc.
once the bonnet is made up then i can start producing the supports for the front end. then its grinder time and cut the inner and outer wings off.
heres a coupla pics:

the paint on the front is just trying to visualise some rough ideas of the airflow holes that are going to need to be cut out of the front.

not much to report but thought i would update so this thread doesnt completely die.
front end has recieved some attention, air flow has been sorted, need to source a splitter and fit to prevent excess damage to the front end and to increase flow through the cooling aparatus.

the mk3 is giving me alot of jip so is taking up most of my time... havent even checked in on the mk1 for about 2 weeks let alone done anything to her. am working on getting her out of the garage and getting her home. if that goes through then she'l come along so quickly!!!
mosman..... hows your projects going? havent been on here for a while and couldnt find your threads.
