Default Crystal Blue Saff recommision

Managed to get some time to create my thread on the recommision of the Sapphire I bought in November, this is very new to me, always had mk1 escorts or modern diesels, so there will be loads of questions on the way.
All I am trying to do this year is get it roadworthy again after being sat in a garage for over ten years. then hopefully do more of a clean up next winter.

When I went to view it.

Having some issues uploading photo's at the moment, will try and add later.

Jacked up the front to change the tyres over and noticed the front spring was broken, so looked up front springs for Koni shocks and came across Ahmed Bayjoo at Grove Garage very nice to deal with.

Once the clocks were out I noticed the wiring for the radio is missing a block or something, anyone know which one the yellow one is for and does anyone have the connector for the other?

Very nice looks better with the ambers back on! I'm also restoring a saff that been off the road 10 years but it looks like it needs more than yours does

Looks like a nice car mate! 

It's in the best colour as well but then I'm biased! Lol! 

Crystal blue is definitely much nicer on Amber lenses all round! 

Bit of an update.

Front brakes have been rebuilt with new seals pistons and new pads.
Rear Brakes new pads fitted.
Front Koni shocks rebuilt by SP Suspension and fitted.
Front springs replaced with Ahmed Bayjoo springs.
Rear Koni shocks tested all good and fitted.
All brake fluid replaced.

Engine.
Timing belt replaced.
Alternator belts replaced
Power steering belt replaced.
Water pump gasket replaced
New 82 degree stat fitted and new gasket fitted.
Air filter removed and refitted airbox with new k&n filter
Oil & oil filter replaced
New Airtec rad fitted
Radiator fan wiring upgraded fitted
New dizzy cap and rotor arm fitted
ICSV cleaned out.
New fuel filter fitted, unable to fit upgraded wiring loom as unable to open doors fully due to storage container.
Hopefully this weekend I will be replacing all fluids and fresh petrol and attempt to start it, fingers crossed.

Any pointers of starting up an engine that has not been started in ten years.

personally I'd make sure it turns over by hand first then once I've wound it round a couple of times I would disconnect the coil then wind it round on the starter to get the oil pressure up then once that's done try and start it..

if it's been stood that long then there could be sensors that have corroded or broken down, injectors could be stuck etc etc. the list of possible problems could be quite long..

good luck

Cheers it definitely turns over by hand, as I put some light oil down the bores first before I even attempted to replace the timing belt.

I'll make a note of the oil pressure light with the coil disconnected, let's hope nothing is corroded or broken down but I suppose that's what happens with a 28 year old car

Tried to start it today, but it wouldn't start, it turns over okay, tested spark all good, I'm thinking its fuel related possibly pump, how would you test this?

When you turn the ignition on the pump doesn't make a noise and if you put your hand on the pump you can feel a little movement and when you crank the engine over you can feel movement but it is silent are they supposed to make a noise?

Not a cossie man mate but from some posts I have read I'm sure there is a relay in the boot for the pump this could be worth a look also.but may be wrong.
You should hear a fuel pump prime. Everything I drive I can hear it prime.
Try giving it a light tap with a persuading device also.

Replaced fuel pump and new petrol tank, all cooper washers etc, now car is all running and mot'd straight through with no advisories which was a bonus, now taxed and have currently done about 300 happy miles.

A few problems I am having is that I think it is overfuelling as the plugs are all sooty, and it is really fumey in the car after a while, I have put tape on the vents in the boot but its still fumey, anyone had similar experiences???

Best to get the car set up on a set of rollers at a reputable company mate like msd or the likes. Could be a faulty fuel pressure regulator but they guys will be able to suss out your problem. It's really not worth messing around with yourself.

Been losing quite a bit of oil since it has been on the road, so decided to tear it down and replace all gaskets and seals etc. The only thing I have painted is the block and water pump, would love to go down the mint route but where do you stop getting carried away and afraid to drive it.
