Cool that you're getting stuck in and making bits yourself.

Do have a real soft spot for a Volvo, really miss my old T-5 still.

Great project mate! I run a 290bhp 850 T5 as my daily and love it. Not many suspect it, Volvo's are very sleeper

Good luck!

Thanks bud, I searched a good year for a nice manual estate but nothing came up, then I was put in contact with this just up the road, 92k, FSH etc etc. Wheels were a bargain, I just needed something to cover 302mm brakes and someone offered these for Ł100. You cannot find them for toffee.

Two sets of bottom arms in a year, new MAF, BCS, clutch/cambelt/waterpump, what I thought was a release bearing turned out to be the bearing in the gearbox casing had shat itself and scored all the casing and shaft so both new box and shaft, rear calipers have already been stripped once and they're now binding again.
And it's still running lumpy as hell, lambda light on, no power, thinking/hoping just an air leak.

Your Kauma will be a hoot.

I much prefer the saloon's but I do understand the appeal of the boxy estate

Wheels are a cazy deal for 100 quid! My T5 is a very similar story although I didn't have the problems with the gearbox, that's unlucky. Think its just the age/mileage, gets to a certain point then everything turns to shit lol. You have any mods on it? love the eggcrate grill

Yeahhh I'm really looking forward to the KA, should be a nippy lil bugger. Lol first time I've heard that name, I'll have to steal it!

Awesome project. I've got a 940 2.0 turbo estate with the idea of running lots of boooost.

Nice project, do like a sleeper car!
Not to derail the thread but as it seems there are a few Volvo fiddlers here atm...
Just a quicky any of you know about putting an Inline 5 T5 engine onto a Ford T5 RWD gearbox.

Who are the Volvo tuners most likely to have done this sort of conversion with parts on the shelf?

Thinking of using chunks of Volvo and simple adapter plate.
2.3 T5 engine, 960 Auto bellhousing, Adapter between the Volvo bellhousing and Ford gearbox.

any mileage in that idea?

Just a Jetex cat-back, big Green filter and a RICA 304 map. Not a huge fan of the map tbh, very aggressive and tails off heavily at the top end, although people's faces when they see an old tank scream off with the wheels lit right into third does amuse me.

Do it! I'd plump for the extra 300CC and drop a B230 bottom end in though.

Is there any reason why you can't use a Volvo gearbox? Whiteblock M90's are tough old units and came on manual 960/V and S90's, not the easiest thing to track down but saves loads of hassle with adapter plates.
You may also need to cut down a sump from a 6 cylinder from the above cars as the standard one is the wrong shape for RWD.

17x7 (not 100% on the width, might be 7.5) 5x108, can't remember offset, FWD though so ET43 I think. They're S80 "Uglies", or Canopus by their proper name.

Am I correct in saying the 2.0 and 2.3 have the same block just different crank and rods? Also what diff are you running? Are there any lsd diffs out there? Mine has the diff lock (below 25mph) apparently the internal Bob weights can be adjusted so the diff stays locked for higher mph, something I need to look into if I can't find a proper lsd.

No mate it's the bores themselves I believe.

You've got the 1041, you're correct in being able to modify it, plenty of threads on it. Not sure what I'm doing, there's some Trutracs that fit in the states for a good price so that might be an option.

Quick research on the 960 box, the ratios are not amazing for what I would want only IMHO mind

The T5 in Mustang "world class" trim is pretty strong and quite small/light for what it can do against Getrags and other t56 Tremecs

The idea is to keep Fabrication to simple light and minimalist

My friend has a Mk2 FRS and I love driving it, the engine is immense,
but I like messing about with cars to much to just buy a Focus I'm wondering what it would be like as RWD in an Escort or Sierra
I like 5 pot noises...

But also been reading up on these red blocks and what can be done, its pretty outrageous it can match and better a Cossie 4 pot (I may need to hide after saying that!)
basically i see it as a Swedish Cossie lump

I do know of people that swap to T5 boxes, even on Redblocks as the M90s are only good up to certain power.

I'm a big 5 banger fan, can't beat the sound. But sooner or later you'll crack liners, and without closed decks/shims/dowels you'll be running into problems commonplace.

Yeah don't be shouting that on here but they're wildly simple and overengineered, 1000bhp is possible, and that's before you even think about 16v heads.

This looks more like PassionVolvo! Similar mods to me then, I upgraded to the 16t turbo as well, graphs dont show a big power difference but feels quicker too me. More at the top end then the standard 15G as well.

Im amazed how much the Rica map changes the car but it never seems to run right (old sensors and boost leaks)

There is loads of info for turning the T5 block around by the way lads, the Volvo forum is pretty helpful. Loads of mental swede's have drifted and tuned these

I bought mine as a non-runner and finally got in running today. I'm amazed at how well they drive and handle. First mods will be dump valve blank, cut the bottom off the air box out and de-cat.

So the shitty running on the T5 turned out to be a little air leak running well again! Although I've been looking at what obscene prices you can pick up things like CL500's for and has got me wondering!

Little update, got one side of the coilovers all bolted together which I'm happy with, feels like some real progress! Now to strip down and blast/paint along with the other side.

Rear springs turned up which was the only thing stopping the rears being done, although I'll be pulling the axle first and fit all the poly bushes and make an adjustable panhard bar.

Been looking into a wasted spark conversion as the standard ignition is okay at best. Also potentially Megasquirt but I'm unsure yet.

A lot of effort there. Makes you appreciate just how easy it is to modify "normal" cars.

Glad the T-5 is running well. I'd still love another!

Got the manifold all welded up, just got to tee off the collector for the external wastegate, had a quick mock up of the engine just because

Not particularly happy with the welds, but then I spend too much time looking at the weld porn pages on facebook so I expect perfection but they aint going anywhere!

Got the last of the front suspension painted and bushed at work so that can go back together this weekend, then on to the rear which shouldn't be too much effort.

Changed to a 2.5" front spring as the 2 1/4" was very close to the thread, also dropped to an 8" long spring as the 10.5 was wound right down on the adjuster.

I wasn't happy with how much space I'd left myself with the first evolution of the manifold so cut it all up and started again.

Looks much more fancy!

Just need to weld this one up and tee off for the wastegate.

Anyone clued up on rear mounting batteries? I haven't got room for it at the front now, I'm sure I read somewhere about using the cabling from a BMW as they're generally all rear mounted..

Trying to decide what route to go down on brakes, whether to adapt a set of Brembos from a Megane sport or something, or just stump up for a pair of Wilwoods.

Forgot about this thread!

Not a million miles off running now, waiting for a Walbro 255 pump to turn up, then I just need to cough up for the TTV flywheel and 850R clutch, then we boost.

Few pictures..

Had a wild idea on the exhaust, decided to make a letterbox touring car style side exit, this took some making! Need to decide on whether to put a silencer in it or not yet before I finish the rest of the system though..

All just about plumbed in.
Temporary scream if you wanna go faster pipe location, might just exit that straight out the bonnet yet.

Unsure what nuts/bolts to use for the turbo though, I assume I need some kind of lock nuts on them?

Currently sits like this, still haven't decided what to do on the wheel front yet.
