Default S2 erst - e99 dfc

Hello all, thought I would post up a project thread for my ERST I picked up last week. This is my second escort RS so I've got a good idea of what does and doesn't work now and a little bit of experience working on them.

The Car itself is a rosso red series two (88 spec) with a documented 130k from new and all the old MOT's to back it up. The car has had 4 cambelts in its life and remains on the whole pretty standard to this day. It has 4 immaculate standard alloys wearing bridgestone rubber all round including the full size spare in the boot. The car has clearly been resprayed at some point as it is simply too good to be a true original in my opinion!

There are no marks at all to the bodywork, underside or interior. The engine bay needs a little work to make it look better but it all works perfectly.

The car has a few modifications and these are a magnex 2.5 inch exhaust with a 3 inch tail which actually looks small compared to most RS systems and is relatively quiet, a few samco hoses, baileys dump valve and a Collins -31 actuator. This is all complimented by a toad alarm and immobiliser system.

Plans are to lower the ride height slightly, add a few gauges and add a filter to bring it up to a full stage 1 and hopefully see around 180bhp. Also looking at a willwoood BBK for the front and will probably purchase this within the next few weeks.

Anyway a few pics (sorry its only one or two)

The car will be living in a unit with a few other classics so will be kept in immaculate condition (or at least that's the plan!) and will also allow us to keep on top of the jobs and modifications. Thankfully I have a company car so am not reliant on this for work!

I've already received a few bits so will update the thread once I've taken a few snaps

jump packed was needed! completely flat battery and a dodgy fuel pump relay . . the perks of leaving an old car off the road during the winter months!

First thing I wanted to do was add a few gauges. I opted initially for a voltmeter and a boost gauge. I'm trying to keep the car looking standard and to an extent period correct so I opted for some TIM gauges with white faces to match my lockwood dash set.

I also got a single din blanking plate with 2 52mm holes pre cut ( I also purchased a triple to try it out). I'm going to mount the gauges in the radio slot to try and keep the car looking standard, this means relocating the radio to the glovebox which was a nice easy job.

Only offered the panel up to check for size, will be lifted slightly before being finally fitted. Would of finished the job today but as always was waiting on a few bits in the post (mainly the voltmeter which was waiting for me when I got home!). Will post up a few more pics once completed

I have 2 other small faults to deal with in the mean time, firstly my speedo cable has snapped about an inch outside the gearbox and secondly my fuel pump relay has an intermittent fault.

Who says owning an old car isn't fun?

Managed to put just over 200 miles on the old girl on Saturday and all went well thankfully. I did however notice that my wheels have mysteriously un balanced them selves and my clutch bite is pretty much on the floor so at least I have a few bits to work on. We did put a new battery and alternator in last week along with a new speedo cable so other than the bits mentioned above the car is faultless.

Next on the agenda is to get the new springs in and get a bigger back box / full exhaust system.

I've also acquired a new unit to make sure I can dry store the car and have ample room to work on it
