So been fancying a 2wd ever since I bought my 4x4 back in 2007 and while on my way back from Donington on Sunday I spotted a 2wd I could afford to buy and keep my 4x4! It needs a fair bit of restoration but everything is there and it's completely standard, anyway this is what I bought.
As you can see from the photo's it's going to need a full respray there is a few bits and bobs that need replacing, I'm gonna start stripping it down at the start of next month got a week off so I'll keep you guys up to date with it.

Once I seen it was a good solid shell I couldn't break it! While at Ford Fair I collected a few bits and bobs mostly from Matt Lewis, I got HT leads, plugs, dizzy cap, rotor arm, TCA's, cam belt, fuel pump loom and a new oil filter. On Monday it was off to a local scrappy to get some little bits that were missing like the nut to hold on the steering wheel, pedal rubbers and the headlight plug and washer light plug had been cut off so picked them too. Got a little bit of time to get stripping it when I got back so this is how it looks now.

Also noticed the clocks font looks strange on this and has a badge saying IRS NOTTM certificate no. 924699
I haven't seen cossie clocks with the same font before, it does go up to 170mph.
had some fun too removing the one caliper, even though the bolt was already wound half way out it had been that way so long it was stuck solid! a soaking over night in WD-40 and trying to work it either way to free it still ended in the bloody bolt snapping! It couldn't snap flush to the hub either! oh no! it snapped half way through the caliper so I had a hell of a job getting it off the hub and disc!
That's all off now but it doesn't look as if the 4 pots can be saved so the next thing on the shopping list is a pair of standard 2wd calipers.

Little bit more done today, got the TCA's fitted. Originally i had planned on keeping the original TCA's and fitting new bushes to them but as the ball joints were shot I got new TCA's at ford fair, but I had already ordered the Powerflex bushes for it so I ended up fitting them to the Magenta 4x4 today as well which slowed progress a little on the 2wd, but I still got tomorrow and Friday before I'm back to work so hopefully get a bit more done. Really that's all I want to get done now before it goes in for paint is the brakes so shouldn't be long now just need to get front calipers sorted out.

Well not a lot has been happening with the car lately the bodyshop is taking it's time I popped over on the 1st of this month and this is how it's looking.
When they rubbed down the bonnet and bootlid they found they had gone too bad so I had to find replacements, I got them now and dropped them off to the bodyshop on Wednesday this week so hopefully work will crack on a bit quicker now. Also I have had the cracked windscreen removed and I am having a heated one fitted in it's place.

Most likely, or something of that order. Nice bit of history to add to the story of car. Maybe worth paying for one of those vehicle enquiry checks for previous owners to see what comes back if there's no paperwork with the car.
Contact them and ask for information, worth a go

That's a calibrated speedo. IRS used to do a lot of the plod cars so it must be ex police. That makes even cooler. Really pleased to see another one saved. You should try and find out a bit more about its history.
What are your plans for it? An early Saph on lattice with ambers is hard to beat!

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
As said IRS Nottingham dials are police calibrated dials. If the car was a police car it would of been an unmarked traffic car not cid. It would be worth getting the old log books from the dvla to see if it was owned by a police force. Also it may be worth speaking to irs Nottingham and giving them their calibration number to see if it belongs in that sapphire as it may of come out of one of the many late spec 4x4 police.cars.

Some great info there thanks guys I will dig into the history a bit more soon, plans for the moment are to restore it to standard, then I need to decide whether I am going to keep this or my Magenta 4x4. If I do keep this I will probably do a modern stage 3 and fit a set of Compomotive MO5's in 17" I got sitting in the garage along with bayjoo springs and koni shocks and probably a set of 4 pots or 6 pots with 330mm discs, nothing to drastic and all stuff that I could put back to standard if I ever wanted.

thanks Alex I'll let you know if I want some stage 3 bits, I got to decide which I'm going to keep the 4x4 or this as I'm hoping to get a house soon and one of the cars are going to have to go to go towards a deposit.
