Default welding :/

Hi guys

I recently bought a 2wd Saph Cos replica which needed a bit of work to keep myself out of trouble on a weekend

Unfortunately both sills are completely rotten and a few other patches underneath the car need welding to get it through its mot. This is about the only work i cannot carry out myself so I have been quoted 200 quid per side to have new sills fitted. I was just wondering if this sounds about right or whether i would be paying over the odds?

If thats too much can anybody recommend someone that would be able to do the work for a decent price in the northants/oxfordshire area?

Thanks in advance

Abbo

That's very very cheap! I had inner and outer sills both sides a repair on the tunnel and chassis Leg and at the rear floor by the o.s seal under side. Came in at just under 2 grand but done to a very high standard

Cheers

Im undecided on whether to throw the cash into getting it through its mot or whether to just break it. The engine/running gear is solid. I guess another option would be to re-shell it? Any suggestions from previous experience folks?

Lol every one says that other than people who have had one done properly inner outer both sides! Repair on the chassis leg and 2 repairs on the floor!
So that's also removing the interior and side skirts painting the new seals under sealing the under side and then re fitting the skirts and interior.
Let's say it took 2hrs to do the chassis leg as the exhaust had to be removed and the rear floor repair too 3hrs as it's hard to get to and the gearbox tunnel repair took 2 also that's 7hrs. Let's say inner and out seal done right all bad metal cut out all rust profed 12hrs? That's x2 as both sides! Paint under seal remove and refit interior and side skirts say 4hrs so in total that's 35hrs which works out 57 pounds per hour I'd say that's cheap as wear I work it's 68 an hour

Also I'm very funny and picky about work done on my car so went up there to view it a lot! I can also weld very well as I'm coded as part of my job working on Daf trucks so no what a good job is and is not. And in my opinion it was done to a very high standard lol

Take your time and learn to do it yourself. Get a decent little mig, don't go for gasless as they are pretty messy.

Have a good practice before on some scrap metal.

I see your point, with the removal and refitting and paintwork etc, I would probably quote that out of my place at around £1500. Just done inner and outers on my saph cos, its a shit job to do.

Theres a lot more too them once it's apart like the little strengthening bit in the middle. I was going to do it my self by taking a week off work and doing it there but I'm glad I didn't lol
