Just looked on the build thread on the escos forum and its got a 4x4 down pipe. If you got a 2wd down pipe you would have to get the centre section aswell. You down really want to be damaging the 4b down pipe to stop touching the anti roll bar. I'm surf someone will have a 2wd centre section and down pipe.

Thanks guys,

How much Mark? Pm me, if it's reasonable I would get that and not bother modifying this one, or maybe do a deal with mine?

The last badge i needed arrived so i have finally managed to get rid of the chavtastic replica lookalike badges on the rear of the car.

yes i know its not a light blue badge but the only ones i could find available were corroded and horrible, it already has a dark blue grill badge so i thought go for it atleast till i see some light blue ones.

I think it looks a lot better now, hope you all agree.

Rear strut brace removal then putting the carpet in and putting it all together was hard work, i must have banged my head 20 times on the boot too!

looks a lot better though so thats all good. ill get some pics but really needed a pic of before to see any difference which i didnt take.

going to order my 2WD exhaust monday too.

well a bit of an update...

I decided 4x4 is the way as i want to make the car original, so planned to strip car, take engine out etc.

Tyre popped on the bentley so ordered one but needed a car to pick something up in, on the way back GTR on the motorway so thought i would have a play.

Held my own which for the spec of the engine shows that it was clearly running too much boost, next minute big cloud of black smoke acting as if its running on 3 and wont tick over.

Obviously fooked so engine rebuild time, will go bigger and better for sure, and do the 4x4 bit at the same time, so spanners out soon, need to get my hands on a hoist again, will just buy one i think.

once its all out and infront of me ill have a word with the tuner and hopefully kick off a rebuild, will definitely take my time though, got lots of other bits to pay out on so really shouldn't of used the car until i had it checked over like i said i would!

Gutted for you mate, I brought an Escort Cosworth last year been doing a few upgrades but mostly sorting out small problems and other peoples shocking work, some people shouldn't be allowed to work on cars or own tools, I've had over tightened & threaded bolts, loads with fucked heads, I had to chisel out the front prop bolts, sure I've got loads more problems to come.

Hang in there mate, she'll be worth it in the end, least when we've both finished things will be done properly and 100%

Yeah the loom is shocking on this car, most plugs broken etc. but nah i checked all that mate, massively overfuelling though and seems like running on 3 but not knocky and no blue smoke, is rumbelly though so i really dont know at the moment

It did that to me and that is when I found that plug. That is why I changed most of the sensors. Its not a dodgy HT lead or something?

Sounds more like a sensor or timing maybe? Did you check the cam belt pully bolts?

Also the engine loom on that car is 2wd sierra cosworth. It should just swop straight out for a standard loom. Plugs straight into the 4x4 wiring loom for the rest of the car

Is it hard to start?
Try leaving it turning over for 30 seconds or so and see if it will fire. Give it full throttle. If it starts and runs like shit missing and black smoke it is related to that sensor or a sensor/loom.

I found it would only start with the ISCV connected.

I would be massively surprised if the engine has let go.

no i havent checked any cam pulley bolts. or the timing, but i agree it doesn't necessarily sound like its knackered, just ive been here before and its always best to think the worst lol.

I dont have a way of checking the timing myself, im trying to post a video but having trouble upploading at the moment.

what your describing is exactly what is happening mate, ISCV is plugged in at the moment, and thats the only way it will stay running.

Runs ike shit and loads of black smoke!

Yes mate that is what I had. Get it running and take out the plug on the coolant temp sensor. If nothing happens you know the problem is there. I never changed the temp sensor myself but I would look at that plug.

If you remove the cam cover you will see the timing is marked on the cams etc. Not massively accurate but will show you if they are massively out of timing which I dont think they will be

yeah i did that with the coolant sensor and it did change, revs went up a lot and then came back down when plugged back in so i know something is happening there.

That is your problem mate. The plugs will be sooted up now so they will need changing. I know it is a 205 block, but that engine is sweet as a nut. Since I had that issue it needed setting up. You could feel it was not pulling as well. Still went like fook but not as.well as it did. That car really shifts when you get her setup. Quickest car I have been in and alot of people I knew with experience of supercars said it would give some a run for their money

sorry mate i mean the plug was on, or it felt it so i pulled it off and revs went up, then i plugged it back in and revs went down again.

it was under full load when it happened and was big cloud of black smoke, and instant lack of power, not run properly since, heres a video of what its like.

It might be the video but it sounds a little tappy.

When I had the problem it would sit high in the revs due to the ISCV and miss when reving it. Was a bitch to start and blown black smoke. It sounds very simular to what I had. I would remove that connecyor completely and check the inside. Make sure it is not damp etc. Funny enough it did it to me when I was sat at the lights about to show a E46 M3 how it was done... it went but didnt boost riggt then missed like fuck when it came on boost. It got worse and wprse and black smoke. The high revs must of vibrated it loose. I think if you look through my posts on escortrscosworth.com you will see a video of what it was doing for me. Sounded like it had anti lag from the back. As soon as I found that sensor not connected it was perfect again. If it was engine related it would be blowing blue smoke so no worries with that. I had a compression test done on the cylinders and they all passed with flying colours. It also has new valve stem seals so shouldnt be burning any oil.

I thought it sounded bottom endy too Stu.

this is what i would have my money on, but thats the noise, not necessarily relating to the running issue... Oh i dunno lol. Ill call the tuner monday and get him to have a listen before i do anything drastic.

I know hes going to have a go at me for driving it like a nob though without him looking at it first!

To be fair that sounds exactly like this... but i really dont know, i do think the bottom end sounds knocky though too which it didnt before so could still be needing rebuild, i wouldnt rebuild a 205 though anyway so ill be on the lookout for a block/engine.

I can't see the video so can't comment on the noises. But your black smoke symptoms sound like the map sensor is fucked. My car (sensor failed) and a mates (map vacumm pipe off) cars done exactly the same thing with loads of black smoke and running on 3 cylinders. I think when the sensor fails it tell's the ecu you're on full boost all the time so it dumps loads of fuel in (maybe wrong about that)

It has a brand new MM map sensor
The dizzy was rebuilt with new parts
Another group A coil was put on her

I would check the gap on the phase sensor. I am pretty sure I left the new crank sensor in the car as well. Might be worth putting that on.

My money still goes onnthat coolant sensor. Soubds just like what I had. Put it back on and it was perfect. Drove much better with the new sensors as well.

You mighy have to remove the plugs and clean them up. Check they all still have the ends on. Should all be easy to remove. If you was closer I would come take a look with you

Have you checked the plugs as one may have failed causing it to run lumpy, also as said MAP & CTS also check fuel pressure?

nope i think taking the plugs out will be the first thing i should do, i suppose if it was really under load and the end of one of the plugs melted or something that would explain what happened.

The map sensor pipe i checked straight away and it was on, when removing it engine revs change again so it must be doing something.

thanks for all your help guys.

Yeh sounds more like the cause as all your problems could be linked to 1 cylinder
