2WD Saph WIP, 99% finished!
Just bought another Sapphire and will be restoring it over the coming months. A few pics of the car how I bought it and some more recent ones...
A few new parts to tighten up the handling a bit
I'll be concentrating on restoring it this year and getting the handling sorted. Maybe next year I'll go further with the engine etc.
Car will be used for the occasional blast on the road and some RWYB events/track days.
Comments welcome
Cheers

Bit of an update...
I had originally intended to fit all the new steering and suspension components this weekend but once the car was up on stands I started to poke around and found all sorts of things....
Not much thought later and the new plan is to rebuild the whole car, I'll never be happy with it how it is and if you're gonna do a job you may as well do it properly! The big strip commenced....
and revealed another nasty to add to the list, didn't take much poking to reveal...
End of a days work...
New agenda in no particular order;
Restore underside
Complete weld repairs
Full repaint including engine bay, door shuts, underside, inside, bootspace etc etc
Fit all new suspension bushes etc
Restore/rework complete wiring loom
Various powder coating
Restore headlining
Restore door cards
Fit new drivers door
Plate nuts/bolts etc
Various bead blasting
Freshen up engine
Might as well get a refund on the tax I put on it this week too!
Cheers

Updates this week...
Continued stripping the whole car, didn't find that much else to worry about just a few small bodges here and there but nothing that can't be sorted. Engine bay is good as it has been covered in waxoyl as have the inside of the bonnet and bootlid. I think the rot is worse than it would have been due to some muppet welding up a hole in the boot floor and then not routing the drain pipe back out of the car!(see first pic)
Has anyone ever had a shell dipped? Might look into this. Not had any luck finding replacement floor panels etc for a saph or a shell.
Cheers

Yeah 5 months mot still left, I'm tempted to call VOSA as this hasn't developed over the last 7 months and it must have been in a crap state at the last mot. What really irritates me is the number of bodges, why do people do it?! I can't get my head around how someone would be happy to fit parts in such a shoddy way. I'm surprised it only broke down once on the way home, was only a loose connection to the fuel pump but the sheer number of bodges I have found defies belief. Quite a few parts I have removed have been fitted with the wrong bolts and a selection of assorted washers/rubber grommets etc.
Oh well, what did I expect from a 22 year old cossie?! It will all be sorted properly when I am finished with it.
Cheers

UPDATE...
Finally found a shell worth looking at, viewed it and had to have it even though it was pricey but I will claw back a good amount from parts I don't need as it's pretty much a complete car minus engine and box. Quite a contrast to the original car chassis wise and I can pick the best parts to build one decent car. Have a lot of surplus parts, if anyone needs anything check my for sale thread in the parts section.. mainly 4x4 bits as I am stayin RWD, some trim etc. Well chuffed with the new rolling shell, it was built up from a new shell at some point hence on a SABTVRO VIN number. Not too sure about the paint here and there but the main thing is it is really solid. Cheers to Ash for delivery and taking the old shell away today
A few pics...
Got lots to do now!

You couldn't keep this a secret from me for long lol
Good to see your solidly back in the game, knowing your attention to detail this will end up perfect.
Shame about the white one but that's the cossie world for you! You really have got to go from the ground up yourself to make sure everything is ok these days so many bodge artists out there!
Dread to think what my old one was hiding if that seemingly clean white one was hiding all that!

Cossie Sean - Yeah I'm really happy with it, didn't think I'd get one in such rot free condition!
Small update... Red shell is now 95% stripped and going for paint in two weeks, I'm getting the entire thing painted - inside, outside, engine bay, under side, shuts the whole lot. Then the cleaning of all the parts commences while it's gone, got two cars worth of parts to pick the best of everything from. Also got some focus RS wheels that will be at the powder coaters this week for a blast and fresh paint.
Pics to follow very soon
Cheers

I bought the shell rolling with everything minus engine and box basically. Paid 2k but I've sold nearly a grands worth of parts that I didn't need to claw some money back. Still works out cheaper than the quotes I had to weld the original shell plus it's not got patches all over it!

That's looking great mate, when you told me the price via pm I assumed it was without bumpers and all the other bits basically.
You got a total bargain!!!
I'm going the same route with mine now,put a deposit on YAP from dan on this forum and it looks a lovely motor, carbon roof and only a few minor bits to do on the shell (one arch repair, plate next to it look a touch messy) but the rest looks spot on.
I'll need some parts sprayed off my car as dan had loads of carbon goodies so those will be done at the same time.
I expect I'll get Ł500 for my old shell with the logbook etc or maybe just sell it for someone wanting a 4x4 floorpan etc.

You got to love old fords . The only way to get the car you want and fully know inside and out, is to do what you are doing. The amount of cars I have seen that appear to be mint and turn out to be sheds is unreal. Every problem I have come across on my saff has been previously bodged. The latest was a wining pas/water pump. I shit itself last week with a loud bang. Pulled over and PAS belt had snapped and taken out the aux belts too. Luckily, I have always ran the cambelt cover on my saff otherwise the cambelt would have gone too.
Bought a second hand PAS pump, but turns out theres nothing the matter with the pump, it has been previously stripped and powder coated by another owner, and the pulley had been fitted the wrong way round. Must have worn the belt and eventually snapped due to not running in line with the other pulleys.
At least when its finished mate, you know its a good one Keep up the good work

Small update - car is now fully stripped and has been transported to the body shop for some minor repairs - mainly the not so good previous paint job. It will be getting a full respray in the same colour.

Been busy buying new parts and refurbishing others for the refit while the car is away for paint.
Work so far...
Painted bolts refinished
My new wheels have been blasted and powder coated
Master cylinder/servo stripped, scrubbed, cleaned, partially painted & rebuilt
Exhaust system fully polished
Brake calipers stripped, blasted and painted
and finally driveshafts refurbished using new stainless clips, fresh grease and some paint...
before & after initial scrub
after paint
rebuilt
Should have taken a lot more pics really, especially the 'before' state.
Cheers
