Hopeing the oil pump is a good en lol, dont want no failures,
Also looking into fabbing up a baffled sump using rubber baffles from a bmw m3'

The reason for the turbo change is when we got the gt35 to 1.7 bar we where getting valve float, so altho i am having mods to try and eliminate that iv been worrying about what if i still cant get the gt35 into its prime efficiency range, so by opting for a gtx30 the turbo has a much more efficiency range and can still produce the same power as the gt35 would have (if the engine will swallow it)

Does that make sense? Lol
I dont know if i will get any earlier spool, maybe 100-200 rpm as the gtx has a heavy billet compressor but the torque produced should be more interesting

Well past few days ive been in a massive dilema as to what turbo i actually buy for the focus... Well this morning ive bit the bullet and made my mind,
A billet wheel'd garret gt35..
Basically same as my old turbo but with a cnc'd billet compressor wheel... 720 horses anyone??? Lol

Also ordered a methanol tank

Should be fun,

Just to keep detonation at bay jon, may be somthing for you to consider??
Can ramp loads of advance timing in to get turbo to spool quicker,
with a bit of meth spray to stop det occuring,
Also can spray some in when temps get high to aid cooling,

so youve gone for the gtx35 then lol , i went up to see ian last night and we was talking about you having problems etc and i can only see you having valve float by not having the correct poundage springs fitted to the head , ian also stated that harvey gibbs has had trouble with the gtx range of turbos surging there tits off on cossie engines so i wish you all the best and hope everything goes ok
keep up the good work

cheers paul

yes spoke to ian about harveys findings too...
But!! And i must say this is my own opinion non of other peoples so i hold my self responsable if it fails... Lol
With the last 35 we had no problems (only valvefloat) which i hope ians double spring will eliminate. So with going for this turbo its also got antisurge where my old one didnt... So fingers crossed it will work lol,
If not... Just going to get to what its happy at on that set up and thats it cause got twins due next month and that will be 4 sprogs lol so not going to have the money to spend on it which i do now.... Lol

You sure youre going to need it pal? Has Gaz rec'd it? I was chatting to gaz about mapping the other day and he was against water inj, yeah I know its different. I'm running vvt so it may be an after thought to get a quicker spool if 1st option isn't good enough.
When you getting ya new turbo?

Well today i decided to get some work done on the car,

After half an hour i ended up with this

An hour later left me with this

So all ready for tomorrow to rip it to pieces and change oil pump and then fit the head and slot it back in the car,

While its in bits i thought i would take a few pics of my inlet manifold as i know a few people were interested in it,

Bottom

Top

Tb angle

And the best pic i could get showing the cnc machined velocity stacks

I've done alot of research in building my own inlet so I know that's going to be really helping produce the numbers, a very efficient design.

Is that the ICV or a sensor?

Under the inlet is a double sensor , air temp and 4 bar map,

I run a remote bosch 12mm stepper motor for als/icv

Well what a cr4p day ive had,*
I was hoping to at least of had the engine back in the car tonight but everything was against me from the start,*
The day started ok,
Engine with oil pump removed

Std oil pump and billet steel oil pump

New oil pump fitted

And then things just went wrong,*
Firstly the crank seal i had was wrong, so ordered another with thanks to steveB giving me some part numbers,*
Ordered 1 from my loal motor factors for it to turn up at 3-30 and still be wrong

While i was waiting for that seal i re-fitted the sump and then went to fit the head,*
Got the head gasket out of the packet to find only 3 layers *
I needed a 4 layer headgasket (1mm) so couldnt even fit the head!!

So well pee'd off today, cant work on it now till next monday,*

Some random pics of the engine

My oil cooler/thermostat setup

And how its now stood waiting for me till monday

Yes mate got the head back, went over to ians on sunday to collect it,
Will get pics of that as i build engine up lol

The 2 sandwich plates house a 110 degree thermostat, and the sender units are oil pressure and oil temp for the stack dash,
