my project xr4x4 cosworth got it back bodyshop gon bust
i did put a post up a while ago with pics but carnt find it so heres another
this was my first xr cosworth running appox 330bhp unfortunatly this is the only pic i have of, when id pulled the engine out after i destroyed the box for the 6th time
so out with the old and in with the new
i went halfs with a mate on this car as i wanted a new shell and he needed a wiring loom its a k plate 2.0 4x4 which cost £25 each and was in very good nick until my nxt door neighbour reversed his car into drivers door
so here it is almost stripped
i wanted to go bufty so i got the closest colour i could find in hammerite and did this
bought some lights and spent a load down ford with brand new vents bumper brackets sideskirt clips etc
found two bits that need welding only have a pic of one the other was on the back box section passenger side
then went over to my mates garage acroos the road so we could weld the rollcage brackets in
heres some pics with the cage in then it got powder coated white
the cage is a six point bolt in with door bars
then it went off to the first paintshop last september where they left it outside, they done a few bits like these
also why it was at the paintshop outside someone nicked my cossie sideskirts which they left in the car
but lucky enough i changed the scheme of the car and went full rouse sport style
so they finally got the car in the paintshop in november, bonded the skirts on and started to blend them into the bodywork
but what they didnt tell me was that the passenger side they bonded on wrong and the rear door wouldnt shut
so they were going to grind the bottom of the door to clear the skirt was not a happy man at this point
anyway it came december and they put the car back outside all over xmas not covered up so i piocked it up as soon as i could in the new year to get it in my garage
all the reapirs have gone rusty but this will all change as its being picked up on friday to get painted
so i thought id go bufty again as the hammerite wasnt no where near a colour match
so i stripped all the suspension and diff out and gave it a good clean underneath only to find other paint reacts with hammerite
read a few posts on here which gave me tips onhow to clean it up
so i cheated and got a mobile shot blaster to come round and shot blast all wheel arches and the underneath of the car sorted
now hees a few pics of underneath dont think its too bufty
new seam sealer and stone chip applied
now in primer also inside
and then the base coat colour
have a few more pics but my computer isnt letting me copy and paste them now
but will update later on hope you like comments welcome

Looks like you'vce put a lot of time, thought and £££ into it.
I've finally seen a rear spoiler from the mould which just needs a polish, but i'm not 100% sure it will fit onto a hatchback. I just feel it could be too long on the side.

ive got a saf one and had a look and your rite too much grief to get have to weld original holes up and then make new ones
but gona keep the late spec 4x4 one as it doesnt look out of place
got sum more pics coming up later
also hows the carbon splitters coming along as thats all i need to finish off the illusion
them sideskirts were a pain to fix and the drivers is warped? plus half of the skirt missing hense why there bonded on will get a pic up and show you mate
got to take passenger side off as it really is a bad fit wish i never went that route now but will be very different with the rouse kit on a hatchback
could call it a 304-xr that would stir things up a bit with rouse owners

rs rear valance as a saf rouse but for a hatchbck took ages to find but needs repair as had a tow bar hole cut out

well the car finally gone to be painted
this bodyshop mainly restore classic cars
gave me a very good reassurance that the car will look awsome
no fillar for delocking all metal finished
will take upto 4 to 5 weeks as he wants to take his time and get it perfect
so happy at that
price wise he quoted me 400-500 quid but ive asked him to do a bit more so look around 650 mark roughly maybe more
but dont care as the job is well done
will get pics up in a couple of weeks as he wants me to gone down and give him my thoughts on the work he is carrying out in stage so im happy with it will gwt pics
