1951 chevy pick up hot rod (update26-01-2008)chassis painted
#202
rear K member now fully welded, just needs the underside welds dresses.
Need to make a propshaft hoop too, need some 3mm plate for that, the patten is made just need to get out of work and to a sheet metal supplier.
Mounts for the air ride compressor have been removed as they interfeared with one of the braces.
Rear axel is all painted, just needs the rear cover removing, blasting and powder coating - unless I can find a cover on eBay.
Front cross member is also in, wanted to brace it to try and keep some of the twist out of the chassis.
also added these two plates made from 4mm to keep the chassis where I need it.
Parts goint to the powdercoaters tomorrow- all kicks off when they come back!!

and then some more brilliance!
I am doing (or should I say have been doing) i similar type of thing with a Morris Minor pick up truck!
I really must dig it out and finish it! Although its way down the list at the mo! Still its not going anywhere and will be finished one day even if its a first car for my first born like you 55 bug!
Keep up the good work, amazing fabrication!

Made a new rear cross brace (nothing that interesting) and will be onto the propshaft hoop later, wife permitting.

so far, new rear cross brace made from 50x25 to replace manky and bent U section original
then I started into the propshaft hoop, I could have made it from 40mm tube, but instead I started it using 3mm plate cut with a jig saw then boxed it in with a 36mm wide strip of 3mm.
box it all in ang give-it-some with the grinder, its not Boyd Coddington spec, but hey, it's not bad!
1st coat of Por15 on the new section-
now the chassis waits for a second coat of paint, so that's the plan for sunday...
all of the chassis hardware are back from the zinc platers, best Ł40 i've ever spent
with some luck I should have the suspension parts back from the powder coater by the end of the week.
more pictures as and when they happen.

I just read this whole project, top work your really doing a lot to the chassis. They look simple to work on seperate chassis and body USA trucks. Good work I cant wait to see this finished.

love the project. when i sell my escort cossie, im gna do a yank motor. 500 horses for sod all money.
hows the beetle going on, will be a great first car, my first car was a bug.
nice to see an oval, i just sold my 1949 beetle to buy my escort cos, was a beautiful little car.
ive gone fron 24hp, cabel brakes, semaphore indicators (you know orange sticks) no brake lights, headlight switch was button on floor, use a white metal stick to dip the fuel tank to check level.
to
air con, leather, 240bhp, powersteering, etc.
but id still trade it all back for something old like your truck.
nice to see someone with some skills and not bodging.

Haven't started the beetle yet, I've got a '67 in the garage waiting to get sold before I have the space needed.
All the truck suspesnion parts are powdercoated now, unfortunatly the guy used light grey!
so he's redoing them in the gloss black that I originally ordered and I could have them back for the weekend!
about flippin' time!
engine and gearbox are painted and i'm just going through the Summit web site (WWW.SUMMIT.COM) to get all the silly stuff together
should with some luck, start coming together fairly quickly. Well into a rolling chassis anyway.
