Default crystal blue 2wd sierra cosworth, light resto, small update

this is my 3rd sapphire cosworth,my last 1 i went all out on,this 1 is just getting tidied up,some nice bits bought, personalised then used on nice days.
theres not really a plan, just replace, recondition or modify whats there already.
start condition is pretty good for a 147k 22 year old sierra.
its been painted averagely at some point,im quite fussy with paint and maybe in the future ill have it fully resprayed but for now it will do.
the engine is a 4x4 200 engine,it looks like new so it likely just been rebuilt along with the box.
when i 1st called i asked what like the underside was,i was told the arches were good and so were the doors,no,the underside, floors etc.the reply was all good.i think as soon as the phone went down he was under it waving a can of black waxoyl all over everything, which only brings out the worst in me-underside resto's!
when i looked over it i wasnt going to buy it,then i looked at the engine and box and seen it was a 200 block and the box looked really fresh.
i got it home the next day on the trailer, took it to a car park 2 miles away and took these pics,an hour later it was up in the air being stripped so everything could get powdercoated and parts replaced.
inside was very tidy,i have replaced 1 foam, the bolster cover and the upper seat frame as it was rocking itself flat when i took it out.apart from that the inside was very tidy bar some alarm holes and phone holder holes in some plastics,i have replaced these with non holy parts!
these pics are where im at,progress has been slow lately due to work, doing jobs around the housembreaking my other cosworth and everything else that prevents garage time!
ill update when i do work, which will be slow in happening!

The pics are around 2 months old,I stripped all the rear end to get into the inner sills to do some welding.
Under all the crud it wasn't too bad, inner sills and a couple of bits on the drivers floorpan.
I have got hold of unburnt snd as straight bumpers as I could find, had the front cut like an rs500,all new ford brake pipes,4x4 rear calipers,044 pump, new Allen headed cap nuts for the beam, alloy sideskirt clips, sorted the squint grille, new carello headlights,4'' tailpipe, new tank, rouse spoiler,1amber rear light (looking for a new o/s 1),bayjoo springs, poly bushes,rs500 splitter, everything has been powdercoated.
I just need time and peace to get the floor painted then I can get on,but with the immenent arrival of the pitter patter of tiny feet it's going to be tough, and my job expects at least 1 days o/t a week,so as you can see it's going to be slow going!

i havent wire brushed the floor yet, only done the welding and got all the suspension off.ill try and get a couple of pics tonight.
i have 1 standard rear light, cant find a new o/s 1 for sensible money,i have fitted ambers to the front and i had 4 sets of front lights i mated to make 1 good set of cossie carellos.
i bought a lot of parts from the national clearance warehouse, off ebay and from ford.i was amazed at what was now discontinued and not available what was available a year ago.and the prices had went up massively.

not much been happening with xmas and the arrival of our 1st son so times been scarce.
but i got into the garage last night and started wire wheeling the underside.i havent finished yet but i have most of the crud off,im away to get my blacksmith pal to have a look at making a spit to turn the car on its side, far easier than lying on my back and will aid in painting it etc.
i have been buying plenty for it,rs500 splitter and got the bumper modified rs500 style, rear bumper painted, rear window surrounds colour coded, rouse spoiler bought and painted, got a rake of good bits from that 4x4 i broke to go on too,70mm airtec intercoler bought, this week ill probably buy coilovers and the wheels.i also have all new nuts and bolts for the underside, new petrol tank, everythings been powdercoated, new poly bushes, poly diff mount, larger rear arb and braided brake lines, heres some pics,1st my new plates, you will like this ryan!

rear arb, painted black and spattered with crystal blue paint,i have had loads of sapphires over the years, white, imperial blue, magenta, mallard green, flint grey, smokestone blue and imo the best colour by far is crystal blue, not to mention the rarity,so im having all the underpinnings finished off like this, nobody will see it but i will when im under it and if it makes me smile its worth it!

heres the floor before i started last night.its been stripped off all dangly bits for ages, just never had the time to get near it.ill post up pics when i have cleaned the crud off,its coming off not too bad,the wire wheel is cutting through most of it,ill get the rest with the sanding disc.

hopefully in the next 2 weeks ill get the floor finished and some rust preventer (a bit too late for that) and primer on it.

not done anything to the car this week, spent a bit of time on sat with the wire wheel getting the crud off, almost finished but theres no pics.
my blacksmith pal is making a spit to get the car on its side so its easier to rebuild and underseal etc so hopefully ill have that for next week where i have 5 days off!
this week i bought a 70mm intercooler, poly msd diff mount which is a very nice bit of kit, poly beam mounts as i had bought rubber ford items,rs 4 spoke wheel which is going to get covered in alcantara or similar, today im going to send a few messages on ebay to see if i can get a bit off the price of a set of coilovers, wheels and tyres and some other bits.
meanwhile,i got my beam, arms, fuel pump cradle and driveshafts back from my painter, you can see better here what hes done with the paint!i love it!

Be good to see how this one turns out, we both know it'll end up painted though.. haha, your Smokestone was minted.

Not sure of the underside colour scheme... but like you said, if you like it mate that's all that matters.

Cheers,
Grant

dont tempt me,theres a bit on the 1/4 thats bugging me,its been painted already but its not factory so will prob happen yet.
when i was looking for 1 i wanted a mint 1,but i bought this 1 which was grotty underneath so i ended up doing this, which was supposed to just be a tidy up but its snowballing.
my pal done a set of wheels for his van black with scirocco green splatter and i liked it,he did the arb as a surprise,i liked it and thought it would look lonely if i didnt get the rest done the same so everything that bolts on is getting it.
I WILL BE KEEPING THIS 1,well i tell myself that so its worth doing what i want to it now so i dont end up doing it again later.
hopefully next week ill get the floor cleaned up ready for paint!

got the spit made,1st attempt at spinning it didnt go too well, the weight of the engine and interior plus the center of gravity being off led to me being pulled off my feet and this happening,2 pals and some ratchet straps pulled it back.
had to have a rethink on the bit that attaches to the car.

this works better now,i can turn it myself no probs and i trust the pin to hold it till the straps are on,before there was an enormous amount of energy stored if you got the locking bolt in,enough to almost shear it off but with the center of gravity altered its well balanced now.

so now its on its side i got to work and stripped off all the rubber to find the ends of the rear floorpans were fillered up,the spare wheel well and gearbox tunnel had filler in them,i suspected they did as the chassis leg had some filler in it,these pics are a few weeks old but now most has been cut out/welded up,i sourced a mint solid spre wheel well which ill use most of,i removed the engine and box to spin the car easier which led me to buying a better xmember as the old 1 had been used as a jacking point so was mashed up underneath.the new 1 and all hubs, tcas, steering arms, arb etc etc have been sent away to be blasted and powdercoated then they will get painted to match the rest of the parts.

so theres not been too much progress really, waiting on my pal to do the welding, but hes been out of action with an ingrown hair, dont laugh like i did,as after telling me what happened i never ever want an ingrown hair, especially where he had it!
so i have been having some retail therapy, got new badges, sent my rs 4 spoke wheel which got painted crystal blue to be recovered in nappa leather and all the bolts, brackets, clips, screws etc etc to be zinc plated, bought a danny b rear triangulated strut brace, another 044 fuel pump, sourced 10mm stainless tube for the fuel lines, ill get a bender from work and run 2 supply lines to the front and 1 return, still waiting on compomotive to cast the wheels so no pics of them yet, bought new window rubbers, headlight wipers, number plate lights, bumper insert mouldings, more poly bushes so i have a full set now, ford floor mats,an o/s amber lrear light but the nicest thing i have bought so far are these....

gaz golds with uprated poundage springs and helper springs so the rears dont fall out of their cups.i got a good deal from woodford on them, well free carriage and they were the cheapest.i had normal gaz coilovers on my last saph and these are so much chunkier and look better built.
found another couple of crappy pics from the day i got it

thats it for just now, hopefully its not too long till i get the floor in paint!
