Went to the unit after work and fitted the clutch master cylinder after taking carefull measurements (not usually my strong point!)
I then stripped the front crossmember to clean it, after stripping it I remembered I had a spare in the unit loft so i soon dug it out to find it pretty mint so it saved the hassle of cleaning the old one!
I then re assembled it ready for the engine refitting and used an escort cos anti roll bar which is 1 mm thicker than the cos 4x4 one that was on the car

Looking good Steve.

I’ll be home next week so should be able to lend a hand…..well at least I should be able to do a bit of sabotage to ensure you breakdown before me….LOL

Spent the day at the unit and started fitting out the engine bay with coil ,map sensor, ignition amp, etc the inner wings and chassis legs were degreased a couple of days ago and now look much better.

I then modified the xr ecu bracket to allow the bigger L8 ecu to fit.

I then fitted the wiring loom after removing the original 12 valve loom right up to the main loom behind the dash,(there was plenty of it!!)

connected up the new loom leaving the fuel pump power for now which will power a fused relay giving the pump a main feed from the battery, just waiting for the realys to arrive.

plan is to fit the engine a week on friday as thats when im next off work

started today with attempting to fit the exhaust manifold all was going well until one of the studs pulled out of the head will helicoil it tommorrow
this afternoon I fitted the spigot bearing then flywheel and clutch used a spare input shaft to line it up and and then put the gearbox on, went on first time with no problems, then I fitted the starter motor.

the exhaust manifold should be on tommorrow night and the turbo wednesday,on friday I will hopefully put the engine into the car

Had a busy day today with the help of my dad and m8 Jim, we loaded the engine /gearbox up at my garage and transported them down to the workshop

we soon had it fixed onto the crossmember ready to go in to the car

we then fitted it to the car with no major problems except for forgetting to connect up the hydraulic clutch meaning I had to drop the back of the gearbox down to reach it!

got the fuel lines connected and a few other ancillarys, before we encountered some problems fitting the intercooler really should have bought a better one that actually fits with out mods but it will have to do!

will crack on next week with the rest of the fitting up ..

Managed another day at the unit today
fitted the intercooler that I had got the inlet and outlet pipes modified to fit better the boost hoses themn went on and fitted spot on, then I fitted the rad and started on the coolent and power steering pipes, ran out of hose clamps as I had left them at home!
So moved onto the amal valve and fabricated a bracket, not the best looking thing but you have to remember its a race car so function over looks is the key lol

how it looks tonight still a few jobs left to do and if all goes well we could be having a go at starting it up next week!

well today was the day!!
Fitted my modified breather tank, gone is the large vent agt the bottom replaced by 2 16mm outlets on the clean side of the seperator, these now route to another seperator/ctack tank, from this it breather to atmosphere, It was done this way as the regs state I must have a 2 litre capacity tank

I fitted the adapter to the header tank for the swirl pot

I filled the gearbox with oil and bled the clutch which is incredibly light.. then I connected up my fuel pump main feed hose and fitted the rocker cover then filled the engine with oil, removed the plugs and turned it over until I got oil pressure, then refitted the plugs, gave it a go and low and behold it coughed..
tried again and it burst into life!!! GET IN!!!
sounded sweet as a nut, so I filled it with water/antifreeze and bled it..

still got a few things to do tidying stuff etc, but it's a big step forward..

big update time!!

Did some more tidying up during the week during this I found out that the power steering pump wasn't actually pumping!

A quick call to our resident hero paul Linfoot soon had me on the way pick one up, cheers m8 a true gent as always)

We have the luxury of out own private test track where we store the cars so today I took the car out for its first drive..

went well, only got 8psi boost as I think the amal valve is playing up, but so far so good!
took a quick video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ResUb0b39OA

need to sort the boost out then it's set up time

Took the car to reyland motorsport on thursday to be set up, everything went ok with only a few jobs to sort(dump valve leaking), main thing is the whole conversion is sound with no major issues.
power is down from the what i was hoping for but the torque is way up, the t34.48 just couldn't flow enough air at the top of the rev range but it will suit the way I drive the car on track as I don't tend to rev my engines to the limiter, I wanted low down punch which it certainly has!
final result was 332.9 BHP and 370 lbs ft of torque with a peak boost of 28 psi

deffo m8, not had a cossie with this sort of power before, tried it round my industrial estate where I store the car and it's bloody quick!
huge step change compared to the old engine so i'm hoping for a big step up the grid, just hoping the brakes hold out!! lol
