yeh back to Mikes, getting there for 9.30, think ill ask him to map it as it is and see what it makes with standard timing then see what he can squeeze out of it with altering the timing and tweaking the map to suit, can't wait!

he did exactly that with my old car when it was on 270s he called me to say what power it had made and stated he would be able get more by altering the timing a tad think it made another 8bhp

done exactly that last time he mapped mine but squeezed an extra 17bhp as the timing was that far out as i done it by eye lol

oh and when you say piper 270s arnt actual 270 duration its just the model, and 285s arnt 285 duration either -

http://www.pipercams.co.uk/pipercams...n=8&engine=268

where as my newmans both are 270 duration and 10.79mm lift

made 180bhp with standard timing, advanced the inlet cam slightly and came away with 187bhp @ 6800rpm and 148lbs ft...

he said he couldve stretched 190bhp but didnt want to be to blame if anything went wrong i.e valves bending... so need the cams timing up with a DTI gauge to get the max out of them, also notched the limiter down to 7300rpm...

im happy it'll do for now got a list of things to do atm being brakes, starter, exhaust manifold need a braket welding to support it as im going to heatwrap it again, rocker cover breather moving position etc etc...

still a nice improvement fella, sometimes the figures on paper dont tell the whole story as they drive differently and have alot more grunt mid/top end.

you got any plans for headwork i know mikes prices are very reasonable

the graphs got soaked yesturday in the pissin rain and from in the back of my car on the way home...

so instead of posting the graphs as theyre a mess i done the differences last night before and after, ill just post what its like now with the cams in as to the advanced standard 2l cams...

3000rpm - down 5bhp down 4 lbft
4000rpm - down 2bhp down 5 lb ft
5000rpm - same bhp down 7 lbft
5500rpm - down 5 bhp down 6 lft
6000rpm - same bhp and torque
6500rpm - gained 10bhp gained 8 lbft
7000rpm - gained 11bhp gained 8 lbft
7300rpm - same bhp gained 3 lbft

so as you can see its down basically all below 6000rpm than what it was before and all the gains are right at the top end, DEFO need the cams mapping right now lol!

no plans for any headwork unless something goes pop.

swapped my servo and mastercylinder today... old one removed -

Name: IMG_2274.jpg
Views: 264
Size: 127.6 KB

new one fitted after altering and re-drilling the mounting bracket for the bottom 2 threads on the back of the servo and spacing the top 2 threads so the reservoir sits level, and bend the brake linesto suit the new positions -

Name: IMG_2279.jpg
Views: 263
Size: 101.9 KB

then after topping up with fluid then went into the car to press the brake and noticed this -

Name: IMG_2276.jpg
Views: 252
Size: 91.8 KB

no not that my interior floor is filthy... notice that my brake pedal is around 3'' lower that it should be, this is because after finding out after i fitted the servo and MC is that the bar that comes out of the back of the servo is around 25mm shorter than the standard one, so had to remove it all again and now going upto my mates tomorrow to have that extended, i would mod the braket but thatd needed chopping and welding too and my fuel pressure regulator is mounted right behind the servo so to save moving that and removing the brackets ill just extend the servo bar 25mm.

Read the whole thread start to finish and this is one truly amazing build you have. Unfortunate with the bits of bad luck that you've had but good on you for persevering and producing a cracking little car that will no doubt wipe the grin off some smug faces! Top build.

just read your thread from the beginning, must say that i'm impressed with the work you've achieved! You've been self critical, had a couple of knocks but brushed them off and you seem to have made a real machine!

I've been converting an orion to Zetec power and have looked through and found some inspiration, need to look into oil coolers for sure.

It's clear you've done a stirling job, definately prefer it in a more stealthy road guise.

Good work dude!

Thanks, gotta be the best reply ive had so far

i wouldnt get an oil cooler unless going on track, the oil NEVER goes over 85-90 on the road, maybe as the thermostat in the sandwich plate opens at 80degrees and starts to cool, either way id say it still wouldnt go over 100 max without a cooler.

Mapping booked at RS Tuning in Leeds for next saturday now the cams are timed up bang on... im going to RS Tuning this time for a few reasons, i cant take a day off in the week and Mikeanics arnt open weekends and also id like to have it mapped there as they're known for being spot on using Dyno Dynamics Rollers where as Mikeanics are a tad optamistic... the car's always smelt like its ran rich tbh so we'll see next saturday

good choice on going to rs tuning mate heard really good things about them especially in the renault scene, and with regards to your comment about the maps being rich i always fount mikes mapping to be on the rich side he must do it as a safety thing i suppose, and yes his rollers are a tad optimistic does he still use the old sun ones

yeh you'll be able to see them on pages 1 and 2 from all the times ive been there lol

got a heatermatrix this week, it arrived yesturday so thought id fit it today whilst it wasnt raining for once...

only took 15mins to change, when i re-bled it all i removed the hose that links back from the matrix into the lower rad hose off the waterpump until it was flowing out of the hose so then i knew the matrix was full... re-fitted the hose, bled the radiator with the bleed screw... then went in to check the new matrix before re-clipping up the dash... the matrix is all red-hot so thats good, but my heater is only a tad bit better...

maybe becasue of my thermostat which is a low temp 88degree one and i drilled 3x 5mm holes init for extra cooling/flow when on track... ideally think i just need a new stat then just drill one hole init but then the slight rise in coolant temp when on track hammering it will alsop rise the oil temp a tad so think im just going to leave it as it is tbh.

Ordered some 10mm spacers that come with longer bolts from Rally Design earlier this week... arrived yesturday now fitted, 5mm vs 10mm -

fitted -

tried on a track wheel to see how it is with them on -

think ill stick to 3mm spacers on for track so the tyres clear the shocks (as they were rubbing ever so slightly at oulton in November without spacers on now ive set the camber to max) as i cba removeing the arches and modyfying to be able to run the 10mms on track.

just tap the arches in with a hammer lol!
you can't see them and then trim the kit back slightly.
that's all i have done with mine, although the new wheels are a little more problematic than first thought, 300lb springs going on sunday though

... ive done a little more than tap them already before when getting scrubbing on track

if i come to refurb my suspension ill probs go for some 275 or 300lbs fronts too
