has anyone got a 5th gear puller for the ib5 box i could borrow, it's doing my head in. Local ford dealers want Ł80 + vat to take a gear off, ffs.
I'm ganna make one if not.

ah well FINALLY finished my gearbox with some help. But what a mission. But so rewarding now it's working all right.
And Haynes, it's so not just a reversal of stripping.
You need to put the gearbox into 5th, and move the reverse/5th selector down and too the right to line the shafts up.
I've also modified the box so it's now like a normal 1.25 so the 5th gear selector moves up and down, whereas on the 1.7 box, they obviously put a different linkage at the end of 5th gear so the gear only moves down for 5th, and not up when you select reverse. Obv this is done to cater for tight chassis leg space, but no fear, nothing a grinder can't sort. But personally believe it's better to have fewer selectors and linkages in the gearbox.
Also i got rid of the roll pin, because i put the 1.7 gear selector shaft back in not the 1.25, and it doesn't have a roll pin hole so now we have drilled in 2 grub screws either side. So hopefully, cover back on tommorow, build up and test drive tommorow evening.

Looking good, Harry. My box is at Motorsport Transmissions being rebuilt at the moment. Thought with the power levels I'll be throwing through it, I'd rather it be inspected and crack-tested first before being built. Also spotted the car in this months Fast Ford mag at Combe.

just got back from stoke where Adam@dreamscience sorted a new map for the car. Works really well. Brief overview of the changes:
Ford Racing Puma base map for MUFF ecu
Deleted Fuel multipliers, so there is no hesitation when applying throttle
Deleted 1st gear torque limiter
Increased RPM limit to 7800rpm
Car feels awesome to drive now, adam really knows his stuff. Going to get a handset myself so it can be fine tuned, but the car pulls right up to the limit, really pleased.
lost 5th gear on the way home though. Normal puma has a different 5th gear selector mechanism to 1.25, i fear it's for a reason, so i need to change that back.

Whats the chances of Mark doing me a real real cheap re spray on the XR3 in red if I have massive MP Auto Bodies stickers on the rear quarters like yours?

well, there's a story, i was going to be out and going round, but to my horror when i pulled up on the drive the night before the diff decided to shoot one of it's bolts out the bottom of the gearbox and shoot 3 litres of gear oil all over my parents 3.5k drive. Not very pleased. But in true determination a mate and me worked all night to get it to rallyday, even though it didn't go round the track because the car wasn't 100%, still a success to me just getting there. I'm going to have a closer look next week, but i fear that maybe the diff cannot handle the vibrations of 7800rpm limiter, but having said that the road speed wont of changed. The diff was loctit'd and torqued to spec so something isn't quite right. Might rebore and retap a tighter thread and get some tougher bolts.
Also, finished of some wiring, and had the carbon dash fitted. On that note, does anyone know where the heater box plugs into the loom, go tno fans atm...
And if anyone has any private land, tarmac or gravel available to be used to some film footage could you let me know
And i think my nan want's a jop on the team

well, been sorting a few bits out. Found the problem in the box to be faulty bolts. We used the RST bolts and these arn't sufficient. So i've had turned down the original diff bolts from a puma that have chamfers on to keep the bolts nice and tight. Whilst i was there i rebuilt the box with new bearings again.
I've also sorted some new wheels and gravel setup. The wheels to clear the alcons arn't 100%. They are 7mm over offset so the steering feels slightly wrong, but i'll address that in the next few weeks.
Here was the nice damage to the box, adn the culprit...
Also baught a new knuckle cos mine had play in the bottom ball joint. Pumabuild wanted Ł200, but turns out ford supply them for Ł88 2 day order with a bearing in....
Some stronger modified diff bolts
New wheels Ł200 a set
Ganna rip the car apart and try and sort something out for a week in christmas. Ganna re-look at the ride height and see if i can move the steering rack up so i can have a higher ride height for gravel. Roll on the snow so i can get the studs out!

lol, be my dream to roll it into a ball at sweet lamb LOL
I wana get it out testing first. I'd only rally it if i knew it was 100%. But the point of building it was to learn, which i did, shed loads. and also to enjoy. But i let other people use it not just me. Also helps me drive better, and is great fun...
