Well, much to the disgust of FRP owners, i had been knocking about with a mate on the BRC and i fancied the challenge of a rally car, so i did this to my frp. Basically got the bug after a weeks driver training in sweden :top:

Pat Flynn? does the 205 Challenge doesnt he? met him briefly at Wales Rally GB 2007 when Robert Reid came over to chat to my mate whos like a brother to Adam Gould as Adam was under Reids wing at the time, IIRC Pat's son is a very good driver in the autograss and was i think 13-14 at the time i met pat

Yeah those swedes can drive! went out to Swedish Rally in 2008 and met up with my swedish rally mate who is in the FST over there, when we watched them rally further north then the WRC there was a few schools there for ice and snow driving all had BMWs sliding it up the mountains lol

My mate had to retire from that round as he was having gearbox problems so he took us round these roads in a rental BMW, that was scary but fun lol

Amazing restore :)

volcomstone411 08-07-2010 04:10 PM

started stripping down the suspension today. I'm pleased to report, no more damage has been done :)

always a result.

I'm currently hunting round for a duratec fiesta st engine...has anyone put one of these into a fiesta/puma?

Psycho Warren 08-07-2010 04:29 PM

harry its been done a few times in mk4/5 shells now. look on UK fiesta network for a car by AdamB as he done a good job making sure it was mounted lowish and with the correct driveshaft angles etc.

custom mounts obviously!!!

Twins 08-07-2010 05:32 PM

Great write up

Mike Kerbey 08-07-2010 08:39 PM

Ollie Clark had one in his 'green machine' Zetec s race car ;)
He runs OC Motorsport, and knows his stuff.

I never said it was/wasn't?
He asked if anyone'd done it, and I told him who I know of that has.

volcomstone411 12-07-2010 05:51 PM

yea, i'm sure i can manage it myself. I want it sitting exactly the same place as the current engine, as it's handling so well, i want the duratec to sit just right :)

Smashed inner cv joint as well today :( something isn't quite right there. :|

also ran out of money, never good for porjects. Ganna be a bit of a hold for a while sorry guys

Psycho Warren 13-07-2010 03:44 AM

and get another photobucket account

TimC 13-07-2010 11:51 AM

Pointless thread without working pics. Sort it out captain green pants

Wellz!!!! 13-07-2010 02:31 PM

so this is what you have been upto :) looks good :D

OldDan 13-07-2010 02:50 PM

What will happen to the logbook if you're putting in a 2L duratec?

StrettonZS 13-07-2010 03:23 PM

Will you be selling your frp engine ?

volcomstone411 13-07-2010 07:03 PM

no wont sell frp engine i doubt. I'm sorry my accoutn failed :(
I will go pro when i get some money's

massivewangers 13-07-2010 07:48 PM

Saw this at Combe, looked good.

Trying to convince my missus to get the arches for her Puma as it's being stripped and caged eventually, but she isn't having it

volcomstone411 01-08-2010 10:14 PM

got my bandwidth back :)

ive sorted some gearboxes out. SO now the new gearbox will be:

FRP 1st + 2nd gear for the fact that they are shot peened. Going to have 3rd, 4th and 5th from a standard 1.7, and 1.25 final drive and shaft. Also going to use a viscous LSD for the time being to see how we get on. That will give us 20mph difference between each gear. Need a 5th gear puller though.

I've also arranged remapping for 8000rpm and derestricted the torque, and generally had a bit of a tune up.

The suspension is also at quick motorsport at the moment, trying to arrange some proper roller bearings for the top mounts, so they wont need changing all the time.

Our preperation switching towards getting her ready for the snow over the winter, maybe abit of gravel also if we can arrange a sump guard.

Psycho Warren 02-08-2010 10:22 AM

what size wheels and tyres you running for snow???

muz 02-08-2010 11:34 AM

I was wondering why you hadn't got a thread up Harry. Oh dear, Quick Motorsport... ££££

We'll have to re work my srping rates etc at some point. I still think my rear springs are a touch soft TBH.

volcomstone411 02-08-2010 11:55 AM

yea, need to find out whats on there really...might be your dampers though.

tyres are 15"

graham isalright to me cos we do his paintwork an he just loves rally cars....he'ssold me some pretty pricey stuff for vry little...think he is at wrc finland atm. get him to smuggle me some focus rs wrc reigar dampers....em.....

muz 02-08-2010 12:11 PM

Could be the dampers, Harry. Although I was told they were freshly rebuilt, seals look good and they don't leak. Running 180LB, 8 inch rear springs and on rough roads they just seemed to make the rear end "light". I'll have to let you drive it and see what you make of it.

volcomstone411 02-08-2010 12:14 PM

yea yea, can you change the bump and rebound on the back?

muz 02-08-2010 12:20 PM

Just rebound. 18 point adjustable.

volcomstone411 02-08-2010 02:11 PM

could be that your dampers need revalving, but if springs were designed to have a diff on the same beam, it could be they were desgined for a bit more weight rear end. You may need some helper springs maybe to help it get the droop back. need to try it running really.

Tried slowing the rebound down?

gjh 02-08-2010 07:15 PM

It might be worth you signing up with the british rally forum (if you haven't done already), its the best place to find out about rallies and regs etc.

OldDan 02-08-2010 09:47 PM

How did you get around homologation for those top mounts?
