Glad to hear it, it is a good car, I have had a Range Rover, 330d BMW and another Range Rover in the time you have had that and that tells you something, we had the Volvo a while.

Just a small update we did a Javlin trackday yesterday at kendrew baracks and we had a top day . It was a airfield track that had not been used for 6 year and at the end of the day we said we would be happy to go back there again. This video is from the car / subru that had a play with me in the rain

Right iv booked up my next trackday witch will be at Bedford on the 1st July with MSVT.
and as I'm struggling with tyres not gripping iv made my mind up to try it on some slicks . Well how could I not when they was free from my old boss .

And as it's a bit loud is the car when we are on track iv decided to install a intercom in and into the helmets

How's yours for noise? Last time I went to Bedford I was kicked off after 1 lap in my old fiesta for failing drive by limits, was gutted

What grip are you not getting? Is it wheelspin under power or cornering?

Get an instructor to demonstrate and teach trail braking if it is cornering / understeer.

Not much going on at the mo apart from the new engine block has been steam cleaned and all the oil ways flushed out .
And as we have got Bedford trackday coming up on the 1th iv decided to give a set of slicks a go .

And I must say I like the way the car looks with on 😁

Well a bit of a update we was at Bedford yesterday and we had a very good . Well not
with out some problems all was going well till
about 11am when I was booked in with one of the instructors for a 30 min lesson well all went well for 10 min . And as we come into a left hair pin I went into 3rd gear a bit hard and as my skyline gearbox goes into 4x4 under braking we had a very loud Bang under the car . So we had to come in . On the plus side Alex said if I got it fixed he would go out with me again witch was good of him . Any way we did fix it by removing all the front drive shafts and the skyline prop shaft and running the car in RWD and with the slicks the car was stunning well it was like a go cart . Well that was till the sinceos went in the gearbox so that was the end of the day for me

Gears are in Southport, similar seaside town lol

So many people have trouble with synchros on the Skyline box. There is a fix, (before you bust them mechanically).
What ecu you on?

No uprated parts will make any real difference if you are munching synchros, the way to ease the gear selection you can't do on L8 sorry.

Just one question, do you have a quick shift fitted?
If so, take it off.

hi im using the standard gear stick as they are none to not like it . And as to the synchros it's them that there is a upgrade for
/ for 3rd and 4th
and as this gearbox has all ways crunched a bit in 3rd and some times in 4th I can not moan .
I would love to put a straight cut gear set in it but I think it will cost to much but I'm going to make some enquiries about cost

Oil is critical, friction is required, not synthetics.
The problems are, driver, too fast on the shift, large gears create large inertia force, trying to slow the box down for the next gear needs sticky synchros, but, often then just can't.
Double and triple synchro cones would help, but they aren't fitted in 3rd/4th on this box.

Approx Ł7500 for a 5speed sequential, handles over 1100nm torque.
I'm looking at one for mine, so is Marc Kinsey for his fiesta. Get in on a group buy for the end of the year, got to be cheaper if we buy 3 kits.

The gears that takes the most to slow down are 1st and 2nd due to their size, most manufacturers use double or triple synchronisation now for this reason.
Very rare you will come down to first quickly in a track car, we do in rallying, in and out of first/second all the time. Mine selects no problem, you have to get the engine to lose power really quickly during gear shift.
You can't add shift strategy on L8 though.
Saves the box brilliantly.

Trouble is that you will break another standard part and an upgrade adds a fresh slippy diff which adds more load.
