Definitely deserves a magazine feature. The amount of effort that has gone into this is amazing. But at the end you'll have something you just don't see on the road these days because they've all long since rotted away, or if you do see one it's just so far gone it's not worth bothering with. This will be a real one-off. I love these cars, these are the ones I had in my early twenties, wish I'd got more pics of mine when I had them, hardly got any.
Gaz, can I ask, does it have the hardened valve seats so it can run unleaded without additives?

I could do with finding out if anyone can confirm when the cvh's could run on unleaded.

Yes, I'm pretty sure you will need the hardened seats fitting in a car of that age.
I'd love to see some pics.

i've just been looking through the whole thread and you've done a top job. I'd have shot my load if someone had offered me those panels though mate. They where one hell of a find!!!!! Well done on not using them on a turbo or a 1600i though!

cars built upto 12/84 may only be run on unleaded if LPG is stamped on the boss of the head above no1 exhaust port. from 10/85 all engines produced are suitable to run on unleaded - as per Ford Motor Company...

Amazing job you've done there. You are a brave and skilled man to dismantle and rebuild a bodyshell to that degree. I'm surprized how rotten it was, looked quite nice even before you started.
I've just started a resto on a 250,000 mile Y reg black one, probably a bit more rotten than yours, but i've chickened out with the shell, it's gone in all the difficult places and am planning a re-shell. Seeing how well they can look on the outside and how rotten they can be on the inside, finding a good shell might prove harder than I thought.
I believe unleaded heads have an asterisk (*) stamped on the flat bit next to no.1 plug hole. I read that somewhere, years ago, and it's always rung true to me.
