Default Stop gap taxi, getting carried away.....

Stop gap meaning to keep me sane while my escos is slowly being built.
I bought this 2wd saf cos a few months back from a mate who had owned the car for some time , though it has been off the road since aug 07. I got it as a rolling shell with it needing wheels, engine , exhaust, gearbox ,ecu, loom, intercooler and an interior.
Great i thought, std everything other then maybe a stage 1 chip and it will be a right laugh to do a few shows/trackdays in on the cheap............but i've got a little carried away and this is its story so far.

Got the car on the bank holiday weekend at the end of may. It looks like this ..........

I sat it on some old wheels i had and set forth on the spending.
First off was the exhaust you see in the pics above, a full system in good nick second hand. It was outwardly rolled but i hate that so out came the hacksaw.

Next up a found a gearbox, but a set of 17" mo's goin for sensible money from the same seller caught my eye.

Found out of a cage for sale and as im intending to use it on track it made sence to be a bit safer.
Saftey devices 6 point bolt in jobby.

But as its also a car i intend to use for shows and hopefully a ring trip or two as well as track days. The front section was not fitted as it meant cutting up the dash and making the car look a little un friendly to sit in.
still should stop my head getting squished in a roll.

As you can see I got some interior out of the loft and with a good hover and shampoo they came up ok. Though i need to have another go at the rear seat side bolsters aound the cage , I made the holes a little big and the mrs' sowing skills can only fix so much.

New stoppers

Got a new radtec 60mm rs500 cooler on the way from rapid ford and some koni shocks and alhmed track spec springs. The car came with koni shocks but on std ford springs.

Managed to buy my old engine back from jasesapphy which is now with Brett sims motorsport for an check over and a few tastey tweaks. The engine suffered low oil pressure so will at least need some shells and a crank grind.

The spec its being built to is somthing like this....
Lightend and balanced bottom end
baffeld sump
New high flow oil pump
arp stud and nut kit
Mahle std c/r pistons with valve cutouts
wrc h/gasket
brett sims "mild tickle" headwork ,been proven good for over 500hp
bd14 inlet cam
double valve springs
st inlet manifold
83lbs blacks
T4 turbo.

budget went abit out of the window there

Using the beam i kept from my old saff, polybushed, mike R shims, 4wd arb and 4wd brakes .
Was painted up not long ago , but as its been sat up for nearly a year its due for a bit of a clean up.

The rear was a little crusty when i dropped the old beam out, so got out the wire wheel and then gave it a quick coat of shultz. That crap gets everywhere.

gave the tank a blast while i was at it.

How its sat as of today , waiting for the suspension.

Cool project, is there any point in keeping the rear seats with the cage?

Thats what I thought about the seats, be better off taking them out as no one can sit there anyway, and save some weight for track!

looks good tho, funny how we just cant help spending money on em

Had a cage and no rear seats in my last one , i 'd rather keep this one a little more civilised (sp?).With a ring trip on the cards and as its not aimed at 100% track , weight isn't really an issue.

Nash,
Gimme your blower

Costina,
yes mate got them, your a man of your word .
Managed to butcher a spare seat i had to make up a set in the end.

Thing is if i spec this with a lot of the parts I'll need for the escos, I'll only have to buy one turbo, one head, one set of injectors ect.
As this will be broken when the esc is near finished.

Koni's and alhmed springs just arrived , will get them fitted up in the morning (with pics) .

beam and suspension all fitted.

Should be lower by 1"-1"1/2 when the engine goes in of course.

New 60mm radtec cooler turned up today.
Not sure if i should paint it black tho??

After looking around for a half clean fuel pump cradle for sensible money ,i gave up . Had an old one sat there that looked like it had been sat in the rain it was that rusty and crusty, but as i wasnt prepaired to spend 70,80 or 100 pounds on one it would have to do. Set to it with a wire brush and wire wheel ,then gave it a paint over in shultz(until it ran out, lol) and some odd red paint i had kicking around.
Not mint but at the end of the day its only got to hold a pump and filter, not bad for £5 of paint.

Just waiting to hear from the engine builder now.
