Default Project UKV 4x4

Well as some of you know i went to look at a MK6 RS2000 4x4 the other day...
I was told it had been sat for 3 Years and had only 1 previous owner, Was totally bog standard and he just wanted rid of it. As it was local to me so i decided to go and have a look..

Visually could see the bonnet was faded, needed new passenger side wheel arch, new front screen and just a bit of TLC to be honest.... So i went away did a bit more research and looked again the next day with a new battery

Moment of truth will she start after 3 years on the drive....??? YES on the button... sounded sweet as a nut, no smoke or anything.. so after discussing finances it was brought for..........

£175

So here are a few pics of it before a clean....

Then after 3 hours and still alot more to do it started to look like this....

So what do you think then.... please feel free to comment

Cheers

The clay stuff is so so easy to use and it makes such a difference...!!

It is basically a bar of soap.... You apply the detailer spray provided as a base over the area you want to cover.. (pannel by pannel) then use the clay bar over the damp surface and feel it pick up all the grim and bits that are in the paint...then wipe off the area you have done... then apply either a wax or a polish.... simples...

mine is the Maguires.

Halfords for a rip off place, ebay do a small kit for around £13. Do appox A4 size and keep the clay bar moist with the detailer spray. Imagine running your finger over paper then over clean glass, thats the difference.

Afterwards get some carbanura (bad spelling) wax and wax the car.

quiet interesting, but a lot of work....
I think when the pas. Arche is bad, the driver side wont be much better!

And i think it will start leaking because of the standing time..

but stay in progress, thats a nice way to drive Escort..

I would love to have the 4x4 transmission in my Escort...

Time for a bit of an update....

Well as you could see from the previous pics i have finally got the brakes all done and sorted minus the rear handbrake cable which i have been having a problem with... as stated above it was the wrong cable to start with... Then got a replacement which was also so wrong... So hopefully FPUK will be supplying me with the correct item...

Also i have started work on the wheels too... Started to rub them down @ the bodyshop but then just decided to get them done properly and sent them down to the sand blasters...!! So £40 later they look like this with a bit of filler in the very small curbed areas...

Whilst they were getting done i picked up the exhaust from Trax...

So after a few hours polishing and flating back we fitted the exhaust... used polyflex mounts too

Need to get a few underside pics to see how well the exhaust come up...

It makes a very nice sound not too OTT like my fiesta but enough to make you smile lol...

Not finished yet i have also picked up a Escort Cosworth lower spolier too needs a bit of work but im sure it will get sorted..

So thats as far as i have got this month or so... Service bits should be arriving asap then its onto the front screen and handbrake cable...

As always please feel free to comment...

Cheers

Right time for another update but im affraid its all bad news....!!!

Time to attack the ROT.... so as you all know most of the rot was at the a pillar so it was going to be screen out (it was cracked anyway) door off and rubbers off to see the damage....

last time car was taxed....!!!

Screen out....

Then it was time for the door to come off....

This what was behind the rubber and door....after attacking it with the nail gun...

After having a bit of a discussion with the bodyshop owner it was time to cut out the bad rust on the pillar and weld in some new metal...

The affending piece of metal flattened to make a template from...

after maiking the template up i thought it would be good ideal to take the side skirt off to to make sure everything is ok under there... (im glad i did)

Lets say its not the 1st time this side skirt has come off... It looks like the car has had some reapair work before and not really the best of jobs done... Anyway back to the A pillar

Plate been welded back in....

Sanded alot of the welds down for a neater finish then sprayed in welding paint ready for the next bit to be tacked on top....

also was a slight small hole at top of pillar but that was easy enough just to braize up...

After that it was time to look to possibly prepping the window surround ready for the new window.... BUT at the top lip of the window was starting to got a bit manky the boss said just to get a better finish might as well get rid of that and paint the roof at the same time.

So after that more attention turnt to getting the sill preped

After alot of sanding down from the old repair job the boss decided it would be a better job if if was just to put a new sill on the car so thats what the next thing to do is going to be....

So nearing the end of the 2nd day it was time to take the car back to the garage as no room down the bodyshop...

And finally before i put her back in the garage....

Thanks for reading please feel free to comment and sugguestions

Cheers

Right another weekend pasted and time for another update....

I have been a bit busy trying to source a few different parts

Well as i have recieved the panel it was time to do a bit of measuring up... from where the good metal is and bad rotten metal was...

The boss too the decision that it was a good idea to un bolt the wing and peel away the seal seeler so we could do a better job of the sill..

So up the car went on the hoist.. Wheel off.. Arch liner out... heat gun, to soften up the sealer... and pick it off.. so i could get to the bolts.. then took them out... headed up the rest of the sealer and wiggled the wing and then she moved enough...

So then we got the length of the new sill and marked it out and cut away the old nasty bit.. if anyone has tried this before its not as easy as you think... Had to beltsand all the spot welds and peel them off so one set on top and 2 on bottom.. then out come the hammer and chisel to knock the welds off....

Then its time to beltsand all the spot welds off flat and clean up all the surface behind ready for the new panel to be spot welded back on

here are a few pics....

So another part to the project i wasnt expecting to do for a long while was wheels... but i just couldnt miss this chance and i think the wheels will suit the car down to the ground...
They will need a refurb.. and 2 have cracks but have been told they look repairable..

Here are a few pics...

and a mock up with the car lol....

Cheers
