Frst CVH Engine rebuild
Okay then,,Start from the start..Itroductions, My name in jay and im an alchoholic..lol (not really, just a cheap laugh)
Im am currently building an engine for my project car, dont know what the car will be yet as i havent made up my mind. Ive been a member for a few months now and asked a few questions but never got any replies so had to find out info the hard way(tinternet and haynes). Ive read quite a lot of resto projects and find them very interesting and whilst i was on last night one or two people said they would be interested in an engine rebuild thread. hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Now please bare in mind im not a mechanic im a technical gas engineer that knows a little about cars so if ive done something wrong or you have a better way of doing it let me know and be patient. Speaking of being patient alot of the parts i am gathering are new and cost money so progress may be slow at times.
Okay i started this about april/may time when i won an engine on ebay for £400 of your english pounds so a quick trip up the M6 from Manchester to Windermere to collect. At this point there are no photos as i wasnt gonna do a thread.
Got home and started strippin and cleanin. Now i know i could get it acid cleaned but where is the fun in that? Paint stripper, degreaser and a selction of wire brushes for my drill gets you this oh and about 20 hours work..cant forget the man hours.
Cant load picture's as yet need to work out facebucket..Told you to be patient.

Thanks for all the advise with photo probs..right then here we go.. My block stripped down with the paint removed took a while but got it back to bare metal.
On inspection of one of the bores i've got a score in the wall that i can catch my nail in, done think it'll go with just honing it so a rebore is needed me thinks. Been quoted £350.00 for the new Mahle pistons and i think it was £80.00 for the boring out..Hmmm.
Got my new forged rods from a company called THS on ebay £300.00 inc vat.
was also quoted £20.00 a rod to connect them to the pistons. It's startin to add up.
Post some more photo's later gotta go an get my daughter..

Right then a few more pic's
A word of caution to those that dont already know, and i found out the hard way. The crank sensor braket can be a b*&^h to get out and i broke mine. Dont know if they are still available couldnt find one, although i didnt go to my local ford place as they arnt that good(only really wanna sell you stuff for new cars). But i went to Tatton Park classic and sports car show last weekend and got me some Lumiweld..
The guy had examples of it being used on ali rocker covers and even cylinder heads.
So after figuring it out when i got home, it now looks like this
Right then one or two things i have bought for it.
Fairly newish crank with shells cleaned and acid dipped £200.00 from "Rawsport". Another Ebay buy.
Alloy Crank Pully From "The performance engine shop" on Ebay £45.00
Right just waitin for the funds to get my block to Quasar engineering in stockport, Everythin Ive got that i dont use is on ebay to try and get the funds together.
There will be other pic's but one bit at a time.

Can't you just use a rs1600i inlet and get alloy pipe and hoses to the intercooler.. not sure if you wanted to use mfi or efi but either way it shouldn't be too much of a prob
what's happened to this thread you haven't given up yet have you

That's mint, I like that! if you didn't know any different you could say it came straight out the factory like that, none the less a brave attempt to chop up a rs1600I cover, if you look at my pics you'll see I just made up a complete custom manifold system with charge carrier to the side and tapped a 5th injector into it
