2ltr ZT mk5 escort build update 07/02/11
hi all,
im currently re-shelling/rebuilding my old mk5 xr3i so i thought i'd do a quick thread, see what you guy's/gal's think...
this was my old 3i befour i had to scrap it due to the dredded rust:
unfortunatly i had to break it due the the rust, and i then bought the saph that's in my sig, but i didn't really like it and couldn't get used to it so now i'v gone back to my root's and bought another mk5...
this is how the 'new' car looked when i bought it off a mate...
(on the way home)
(and at the lockup)
it started life as a mk6, but my mate turnt it into a mk5 cossie rep, and did a bloody good job i must admit!!
i wont be staying as a cossie rep as such though, the back will, but the front will look the same as my old 3i above.
here's what i'v collected for it so far:
genuine lower spoiler
grpA cossie k&n
eagle rod's and JE piston's
16 row mocal oil cooler
adjustable cam pully's
omex600 loom & ecu
rs/xr morrette's
half tinted rear light's
stg3 t3, but this will proberly be changed for a t34 now
doulbe valve spring's, breather blocker plate, arp conrod bolt's
got load's more, but no pic's as yet...
and a few pic's of what progress has been made so far on the car...
stripped it all bare, and completly re-undersealed it (no pic's of it bare tho im affraid)
and then i stripped the feul tank back to bare metal and painted it black
that's as far as i'v got with the underside so far, just need my mate to help me with the copper brake line's as i dont have the tool for it, and wait for some bit's to come back from the powder coater's and i can put it all back together
i have now also started to strip the engine ready for it to go off and have the rod's and piston's fitted
i'v chosen to go with the blacktop engine, but im starting to wish i hadn't now lol
need to have the engine mount modded to fit the black top
as you can see the 3rd hole doesn't quite line up, so im having it chopped off and abit more welded on...
here's a rough spec list...
2ltr black top zetec
JE low comp pistons
eagle steel rods
stg3 t3 (but as above, will be changed for a t34 ready for anti lag )
standard cam's for time being
rover M16 turbo inlet
ceramic coated tubular manifold
rs500 pro alloy intercooler
alloy escort cosworth rad
full s/s exhaust system
cosworth fuel pump
modified rocker cover to suit breather system
omex 600 management with anti lag, and possibly lauch control?
16 row mocal oil cooler with aeroquip fitting's
blue vernier pullys
grp A cossie k&n
green injector's
arp conrod bolt's
arp head bolt's
double valve spring's
magnacore ht lead's
custom boost and coolant hose's
focus rs head gasket
uprated clutch (not sure what yet tho?.... help!!)
suspension stuff & brake's:
weitec coilover's, but will be changed for fully adjustable avo coilover's eventually
325mm GOLD hi-spec front brake conversion
polybushs alround
braided brake line's
rear grooved disc's
wheel related stuff:
17x8j 6spoke compomotive's
anodised blue centre cap's
anodised blue wheel nut's
exterior related stuff:
rs/xr morrette's
half tinted rear light's
modified rs/xr front bumper with clear indi's
rs500 splitter
cossy lower spoiler
modified rs2k buldge bonnet with aero catch's
chrome wing vent's
interior
mk6 rs2k recaro interior
mk5 dash
cossy bannana pod
ford racing boost, and oil pressure gauge's
some thing's will proberly change though...?
that's it for now, i will be updating in the next few day's hopfully so what this space
what y'all think so far anyway's??

the rear chassis rail's had rotten through, i did have them patched up, but then they started go further down...
the floor pan, round the windscreen and the front panel behind the front bumper was also pretty shot aswel, just seemed like i was fighting a losing battle with it, is a shame concidering i'd just had the rear arch's and filler cap surround sorted
onward's and upward's tho, this shell is completly solid, wasn't a spot of rust on underside or anywhere to be honest
