Cool 1967 Lotus White Beetle Restoration

Yes

The 16i had been away at an auto electrctians for 3 weeks now, and frankly im getting bored so I have got another toy to tide me over untill the 16i is home

This is my 5th (6th if your counting the fire) Restoration in 2009

This year Ive already got through

1971 Vw beetle
1992 Mk2 Golf GTI VR6
1985 Rs1600i- Twice in 5 months due to fire
1971 Aston Martin DBS

And now a

1967 VW beetle

Its due home tommrow or wed's, so sorry no pics for now. But Its basically going to be a full strip down body off chassis restoration.

Car is missing engine, wings and interior and a few other parts.

Ive already been buys on Ebay.

My Genuine 914 Porsche Fuchs turned up today £600 but well worth it, these wheels are rare as you like!!!

Ignore the mk5 golf, just putting on new wheel bearings, as my head nearly exploded listening to them driving to ford fair yesterday

Better than I thought they would be.

Dont weigh anything, due to being designed for racing

Polished up alright

CB Performance dropped spindles 2.5" also turned up

Some one shoot me, Im clearly mad

16i im now thinking it could be yet another 3 weeks before the guys find time to sort the electrics out. As they are treating it as an after hours job.

Chances are the 67 will be finished and on the road before the 16i is home

Well they are the original design of Mr Porsche him self, he then used pretty much the same engine and chassis to build the 356.

My Genuine Porsche 914 wheels even have the VW stamp cast into them .

Here we go then.................(as you will see 1967 is a special unique year, the year everyone wants due to the unique specs and 1967 only gearbox allowing an easy/smooth 70mph cruisin speed)

1967 only rear valance

1967 only fuel tank

1967only long bonnet.....sooooo soooo soooo clean and rust free which is like near impossible these days

Pile of goodies inclusing rear bench and us spec sloping lights

This one could even be finished before the rs1600i

Ive also got a 3door moonstone coming next week, so im not joking when I say I want to get this bug done sharpish

It came free with "700 soft essex reds" been waiting for the farmer to cut the peas so we can have a fire and BURN it

I know, cant wait to fit them.

they are the US spec so have the indicators in the head light as well.

half way through 67 they added the "wing top" indicators, im not sure if mine shoud have them or not as im still waitng for the birth certificate to come from vw to confirm build date.

Im thinking do smooth wings with out the top indicators, front will look like my 1949 bug then.

Right Guys done some research on the paint, and it is not Lotus white as first thought, after a bit of dectective work the colour you see is a sort of Mango Green mixed with cream?

Very Very 1990's cal look colour, I really think im going to struggle to find a match. So have decided im going to respray the whole car instead.

NOW ive had a brain wave.............................................. ................
.................................................. ...............................................
.........................................

How about..........the "new" Audi/bmw/VW white colour????

Could look really effective against black and chrome trim and the porsche wheels

Opinions please

Gourgeous colour, but dont think it would suit a 60's bug, and defo not "cal look".

For anyone who doesnt know Cal look is the Californian look, a styling and tuning trend created in the 60's combining drag racing and declutered styling.

I have done some searching on the net and cant find a bug that been done in the "new" age whites that are about.

I dont know it it would be Too much though? I could just stick to lotus white. or go crazy and do a red or something?

More google immage searching me thinks

Definitely stick to white!

And the smooth wings are a must!

I saw a GORGEOUS bug this morning, from the back it had the old towel rails, teardrops, roof rack, and it was in like a duck egg blue... then i saw it turn the corner..... it was a 1303 killed it!

Im on a program where you can draw your own bug, and have some exapmles it like to post up, but dont know how to do this as there is no option to "save" the pic. Does anyone know how to post up a copy of the the "screen", as ive seen this done before.?

Literally just press 'print screen' n your keyboard, then open something like paint, and select 'paste' it should then appear!

got as far as the prt scr , then gave up and took a pic of the screen instead

Here is what I looks like now (well should look)

And here is what I plan

Front:
Lowered 4.5" (2" on swayways beam adjusters and 2.5" on dropped spindles)

Beam narrowed 2" to give subtle tuck under and help get the wheels up in the arches

Rear:
Lowered 1 inner spline and 2 outer

Trim:
loose blade bumpers and go with the cal look classic t bars??

Wheels:
914 Detailed fuchs (tho im thinking they may look better fully polished with out the black detailing?)

And here it is the the 914 wheels fully polished rather than black detail and also with "towel rails"

hummmm decisions
