Got the car back on the wrc stands and off the dolly's for the first time in over a year
Im gonna get all the suspension on the car to double check the basics, so started to bolt up the rear link arms, rear bladed roll bar, uprights and struts etc all built up but then run out of time but this part of the build us much more enjoyable![Top](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/smile011.gif)

Thanks Stu
The sill stands are steel soncant be anodised but can be painted black, not sure if il bother tho as they get chucked around when not in use,
John - no them studs are not the ones to use as the cossie flange doesn't allow the space for the rear nut, or it leaves it very tight for space, search eBay for vw extended wheel studs and there available in 76mm or from a firm called machine7 in 80mm or 100mm lengths

yes mate, vw, Audi and Porsche all run M14x1.5
This is the firm i used
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vw-T2-T25-...item45f7e4e198
I don't know if they can supply longer than 76mm as i have not asked but if you wanted 80mm which is what i am likely to run on the front to accommodate the spacers then this firm does 80mm & 100mm ones
80mm
http://www.machine7.com/product.php?xProd=1221&xSec=601
100mm
http://www.machine7.com/product.php?xProd=1222&xSec=601
I have grp a M14x1.5 nuts, although i have a feeling they may be 9/16" as they are a little loose so just to be sure i am gonna order some new ones and if they are loose as well at least i will have spares lol, but if they are a tighter fit i will sell the others on as 9/16" grp 4 nuts which is what they are likely to be if not M14
As for lengths it really depends on your car/wheel offset etc, as the jwrc has massively wide arches, and the cosworth track is narrower than them i run hub centric spacers to bring the wheels out at the front and no spacers on the rear as i am spacing the driveshafts out instead,
Im not sure what car you have but if your not running any spacers and are running a 7-8mm brake bell then 76mm studs are ok,

Have just trial fitted it all up with random bolts and measured the lengths needed for the new 12.9 plated bolts etc
Test fitting threw up some small issues but nothing major so that's all good

Brilliant attention to detail as always Marc but I cant help but feel a tiny bit dissapointed that you didn't go proper wide track whilst you could during the build instead of having to run wide wheel spacers. I know components would of needed to be remade (TCAs, Track Rods, Driveshafts, locaton of the strut top etc etc) but by doing so you would have much more control of which part of the tyre you are steering with (scrub radius) which would improve handling.
Too many people choose an offset of wheel just to fill the arches without doing the mathematics and geometry checks to see what effects it will have on tyre contact through bump, rebound and steering.

Tim
I do wish I had started with the wrc front end but at the time i could not get the extra 3k for all the parts so had to run standard 4x4,
When Andrew built the car it was designed and all angles checked using the 4x4 set up then a 30mm spacer added to bring the wheels out, so as things have changed this will all be re checked when the car is fully built and up to full weight and if needed new parts made such as shafts/ top mounts etc so we have the widest
Possible track without spacers while keeping all angles and
Plunge etc correct
The problem is now I have changed to a wrc front set up it's changed everything so what I have to do now is fully build the car so it is at full weight so we get the correct driveshaft angles and plunge etc, set the geometry for the correct camber castor and toe an then I will see what is needed to bring the wheels out in the front arches,
The wrc uprights already moved the wheel out a fair bit so if I'm lucky I will not require any spacers but there's no way of telling now until the car is built and the geo is set but either way the limiting factor on widening the track is the top mounts and after speaking to MK about this issue we will if needed design/make new custom top mounts to move things out as much as we can but this can not be done till the end but I don't see any major issues
Thanks for all the good input and comments guys

What I done was freeze the studs for a few days, drill out the flange holes to 14.5mm then they will press in but it took about 6tonnes of pressure to get them in so long as your press can handle that it's easy
Get the nuts from Tony at touring car spares

This truly is an inspirational build. Wish I had the notion in me to put this amount of attention and detail into my Fiesta.
I do fancy giving it a full rebuild just to check everything.

Mark has spoke to me already about a steel wrc front cradle design but keeping the standard engine mounts as i don't want wrc chassis mounts, the cradle would give better geo though so see what happens

I must admit it has all been spending really up to this point but even though it's still gonna take the next year probably to finish at least now it's more the just laying out cash hand over fist, i can actually start to see a PROPER toy coming together![Top](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/smile011.gif)

Mark from MK has made me one, same as your saying but mine is also to use a sierra 2wd non power rack (different mounts) ask him for pic's.
