if your not blasting or dipping it then best get out with the wire brush

if you paint over the bare metal it will come through over time what ever you paint onit

and the ammount of money and effort going into this build its gonna be a keeper

gonna be one to watch this

Cars looking great, any idea on color scheme?
Had my shell blasted and a holding coat of primer put on cost Ł300 it was worth it you'd be suprised what goes rusty over the damp winter time.

Pennies considering the long term effect, well worth it.

i would dip it mark. sand blasting is a bad job, it gets every where mate. it will be comeing out of places for years every time you brake.
also when you go to paint the inside of the car with the finished paint the sand can blow out with the spray gun , and leave a mess.

my shell will be going from gordon vincent by a haulage company in a curtin sider lorry to keep it dry to ( acid dippers 01384242010 ) they will etch it also then there is no rust . then home to northern ireland in a curtin sider lorry to stay dry..

thanks steven..

The problem with dipping the shell is they have to drill 2 holes at each end of every section of tube or sealed chassis on the car and that's a fuck load of 4mm holes in the cage and front tube chassis etc

Think il look into the aqua blast and shot blast just voice my concerns about shot left over in the car, but remember my car no longer has the nooks and crannies most do as it's tubbed out and flat floored so nowhere apart from 2 sills for the shot blast to go,

I dont think the surface rust is that bad at all. A rub down before paint and i am sure it would be fine. Its not the sort of rust thats going to keep coming back through the paint.

How much work do you need to do to it before it goes for paint? I would have thought it would be going straight there?

mark try and get it soda blasted as its less harsh than sand blasting , and jim my welder says that unless there very very good at car prep then give it a miss as he used to work for prefab motorsport and said the amount of distorted body panels hes seen is unreal from customers having there car done before fabrication.
if you do sand blast it just use a compressor and hoover and give it some welly lol.

cheers paul

It's looking comfy in it's new home.

Get a heat gun and scrape the sound deadening off the roof. Will look much better inside!

Did all mine with a wire wheel in the grinder, da and some good old hand work. Treated any suspect bits with 'jenolite' rust converter, then etch primered it all. Sealed joints with polyurethene sealer and stone chipped as required.

The quote of Ł1800 from SPL plus the cost/time of transporting it there and back put me off having it dipped. Plus there are some 'horror' stories about

The mess made by a mobile blaster is horrendous so that's definately out of the question Paul,

If I had the space and a compressor I would blast myself,

Maybe il do a section at a time with wire wheel and etch primer in a rattle can if blasting isn't the best way to go,

BLAIR- I have a heat gun and will do that when I get a chance although it maybe getting a carbon roof anyway,

Awsome car!

I think people are going a lil OTT on suggesting ways of dipping and blasting it etc

The car really has only a roof and a chasis thats mainly tubes correct? get some wire wheels and if even that is needed as it looks very light surface rust and rub it back then etch prime will do you fine imo.

it is very light surface rust that you can pretty much scrape off with your nail in places so gonna get it on a jig/stand and have a go myself
