v6 mk6
ok i bought a 2.5v6 mondy lump for £100 and i have a mk6 5 door escort laying around, ive done the 2.0 zetec thing and got bored real quick so its out and the 2.5 is going in. im going to super charge it at some point and im running it on a megasquirt ecu what i need is any info about what gearbox to use and what engine bay mods need to be done i dont mind making up engine mounts (ive just built a mini clubman estate with a 2.2 v-tec in the boot chopped the roof off and spaceframed it but that was easy cos i didnt care about cutting it about and welding back after!!) i have to keep it fwd cos.... well just cos. am i right in thinking that the mondy has a hydrolic clutch? (gearbox was auto) i was going to use the ib5 that was in the scort but when i offered it up there were many problems.thanks in advance.
Gday bud, iv been thinking of doin this conversion for some time, mainly because the zetec thing has been done to death and secondly with a Dastek unichip, filter and exhaust the V6 can put out up to 190bhp plus its not to heavy being alloy block and heads. What im about to say is just theory and i have not yet put it into practice but to point you in the right direction i believe mk1 mondeo V6's had cable operated clutches and mk1 and mk2 both use a MTX75 gearbox but i think they use a different bell housing to the norm due to the starter motor mounted on top of the box due to the V configuration. If the V6 gearbox casing itself was the same as that of a MTX75 fitted to the mk5 or mk6 escort RS2000 then the gearbox mounts for that car could be utilised in your application and so reduce fabrication time and should mean you could use the RS2000 driveshafts too. The V6 engine itself will need a custom mount for the o/s wing/flitch panel, plus the original escort engine mount will need to be removed as it will foul on the rear bank of the engine. Also a small section of the bulkhead/divider on the o/s will need removing as this will foul the cylinder head. Hope this helps bud
yeah i though the engine mount would have to be chopped off, there is a tale of ford producing a couple of these themselves so i figured that there wouldnt bee too much to get one in as i cant see them using thousands of man hours shoehorning one in. it does look like it will go ive measured up the engine and its about 3 inches shorter than the zetec thats in it at the mo. im aiming for around 200 to 220 bhp but i want it reliable and as the yanks say bigger is better, id put a v8 in if i didnt have to carve it around!
Well ford did make a fwd V8 and put it in the Taurus SHO, now that would be a tight fit. Theres a US company called Nautilus that does alot of work with the V6 duratec, 3 litre bottom ends, turbo and supercharger kits. Could give you some more inspiration.
