Well its now been 6 months since the underside resto and over the winter a few things started to worry me.
Firstly condensation in the mornings which turned out was being caused from wet carpets, so dig a little further and both floors are wet drivers and passengers. So bit more digging and found the following.
So that resulted in me stripping the whole engine bay as I thought the rest of the car looks so good why miss the engine bay.
So engine out, wiring loom and all lights and bumper.
Which led to this!
Its ok tho rather find it and repair it then not know about it.
So set about repairing the battery tray first so out came the grinder and cutting disc
Then this is the result needs tidying up with the welds but didnt have my small grinder so will do it another day
So plans are rebuild the engine properly with xe pistons, high lift cam ported head cossie turbo and new ECU.
Comments welcome.

Well as the rain lashed down yesterday and we couldnt work decided to get up the workshop and finish off repairing the rust.
Heres the pics.
Fusebox repaired:
Passengers side bumper mount cut out:
Repaired:
And drivers side bumper mount repaired:
Will get it all filled and hopefully painted next week. Got new engine loom clips and some other bits and pieces but I want a new vin plate as the old one looks really tatty. Any ideas???

Great job so far mate, I had the battery tray done on my MK3, fortunately my fuse box was mint underneath so I waxoyled the area to death.
Refitted the interior, carpet etc then a couple of weeks later noticed the footwell was wet on drivers side
Its defo coming in from under fuse box, interior all out again and soundproofing in the airing cupboard!, reckon my waxoyl has stopped a decent seal with the fuse box.
Anyhoo, might be worth you putting a hose over the car before fitting seats, carpet etc wish I had

A little update for those who might of been watching the thread, we went up the workshop yesterday and we ground down some of the high spots in the welds and added some filler to the battery tray area and the fuse box,
I then decided that i wanted the slam panel to be nice and flat with no holes etc so i got my bro to weld the holes up ready for some filler and then a good sanding to get it nice and flat,
Going to concentrate on stripping teh rest of the front end mechanicals off and then a good clean and sand ready for primer.

Had a few hours on the car today, got some filler in the slam panel and a few other areas where needed,
Then set to stripping off the rack, anti-roll bar and front legs ets, i then jacked the car up ready for its final clean and sanding ready for primer,
let me know what you think,

Well after a lot of hassle and head scratching i finally got my grs cooler and airtech rad in place and mounted exactly as i wanted as to not alter the appearance of teh car from the front retaining spot lights and an original 88 spec bumper.
Let me know what you think?

If your doing it in your cossie just look at the link i posted i followed that step by step was100% accurate only thing i did easier was when removing the top centre section remove the recaro end first then simply slide the bases apart rather than using a screwdriver to force them apart.
