Default Escort MK4 Zetec transplant & resto Update 22-DEC-2004

Hellow u guys, i'm quite new here. Have been reading Pf for like 2 months now since Victor was building his orange Cabrio. I know Victor more or less personally. Thought it would be cool to place some pictures over here.

I've got an XR3i from 88 but unfortunately the engine died. The oilpump stopped and some parts of the engine suffered from severe oil-starvation ergo End of Story.

First some pics of trying to get the engine back together before i knew that the pump was broken.

The way i got my ford,

When the shit happened and i got working on the car

Then i was trying to rebuild the engine (with the broken oilpump) unfortunately i didn't know the pump was broken at the time (i'm no car-specialistic mechanic)

Anyway on the original head one valve was broken, one cam was nokked to death and a rocker died so i had to buy a replacement. Which was chemically cleaned, got new valveseals and was thuroughly tested and found good enough.

Then i drove the car for like 2 weeks. At first it worked like a dream. It accelerated nicely and stuff but not everything was quite normal and one day the oil-indicator started burning. At that time the engine was tikking like hell and i didn't realize soon enough that it was getting at it's end. And so he died.
Well, what to do?
I just graduated, have no job. What the hell should i do with my beloved XR3i, give it a nice RE-DO.

1st i want a new engine off course, i've aquired a 115HP Zetec (1800) with the entire loom. it cost me 150 Euro's
I'm going to mount it on a RS Turbo LSD gearbox with a new AP or Sachsclutch attached to it. But 1st i need to make sure that i find a suitable 220mm EFI Flywheel. Cuz i'm keeping the engine management from the zetec.

I also aquired RS Turbo brake calipers which will hold 260mm ventilated discs and EBC Greenstuff.

I'm going to put the entire suspension on PU Bushes.

After the engine has been done, the entire body will be stripped and gets the special anti-rust treatment. The entire drivers-side of the car will become new. And a Respray, i simply love the original red color!

And there's a load of other aestethic things i want like white OZ Superturismo's

Anyway... there's more i've done so far

In the meantime i've stripped the engine bay. Got out the broken lump, i've loaded all parts in the back

My engine came out in a very special way. I got the head of and the sump. Then i hadn't anything to lift the engine out of the enginebay...

The angle was a bit tricky

It had to land somewhere, so i put an old table and a lot of cardboard on the floor and pulled the engine thru the radiatorhole... it worked perfectly

The engine bay almost empty now (except for the kookingpan

And out came the lump. which i dissassembled immediately. I found no damage on the main bearings, but hey the zetec arrives on friday so the new lump will get it's new chance

Ill keep u guys informed!

Default small update

Yesterday evening started with disassembling the front suspension.

The front suspension is a bitch when u can't really get under the car and all nuts and bolts are jammed.

And the rims, well i'm going to sell em. They weren't really mounted on the car the way they should. It was done on simple bolts, no special ford or sierra bolts. I have the sierra bolts though but i need some bigger rims when i want to uprate my brakes later on.

Edit: Yes everything is done under the nice cold sky of holland. Yesterday evening it was raining and cold
I don't mind, as long as the product of my investments will become really cool

Dunno yet, i do know i need a 24mm front-bar.

Scince it wont be put together for a month or two i think some kind of coating will be applied to it yes. But no red. I think just plain black will do.

I'm thinking of sealing the wheelarches.

And these monroe shockers with 60/40 springs will for the time being be replaced with other shockers and Original RST Springs.

Hmm, a minor setback. The engine which would be delivered on friday turned out to be an 105hp... That's not the one i'm looking for, so i hope to aquire another lump next week.

Did some stuff today, did not have a lot of time.

Removed the left-side suspension, going to ditch the arms and the front bar, dunno what english ppl call it... U'll see it on the pictures. It will be replaced by a 24mm one.

Some bolts got a little warm, and 1 even brok off

So i got working, bashing those peaces until they come apart

Well, finally!!!!

DHL has delivered my owww sooo wanted engine.

It's an 1800 Zetec 131 BHP. The tell signs:

RQB on the side of the head and the 130 sticker on the inlettube.

Here the comming of da engine

needs some unwrapping (u can see the enginemount sticking out, removed that bit already)

The ECU

The engine unwrapped

IT sez RQB

And finally, the hole it's gonna be planted in.

But first, the engine needs a nice tidy up, cuz it's greazy

Ey Thies, keep up the good work mate!

Nice to see that a guy that I had to help out with simple things like renewing brake pads is now a "tool addict" himself.

Make it a nice 3i Thies, there are not enough NICE 3i's driving around anymore!!!

Oh yeah, the rest of the guys are right..... Get some new nice and shiny paint sprayed into that engine bay. Now's your chance!! Saves you the job of taking the engine back out again when you want to repaint the whole car.

Okay, I'm of to the garage again..... And than maybe later on today take the RWD out for a spin now the roads are filled with snow!

SHITE, guess u have been doing pirouettes with b-man and Svenny Jay at the stadium right? well snow is gone

Hmm, i'm really doubting about the sprayjob, cuz da parents want me to put the engine in asap. money is scarse right now...

Need to get that FRST gearbox from Jur 1st and then the RST-clutch.

dunno yet.

It's in terrible need of some new bodywork and am afraid that the welding would ruin the new coat of paint.
