Default MK2 XR2 - Progess Thread - Got an Engine

Thought id make a new thread on her as the old thread got a bit messed up. Currently, she is a 1988 MK2 XR2. running an XR3i CVH lump on Twin40's. Magnex exhaust, S2 LSD box.

Plans at the moment, got a pair of Spax suspension to go on her, got a bailey header tank to fit, fit new springs to the gear selector as its slack as hell, drop down rear axle, clean up and get powder coated. Also need to polybush the rear as the front has been done.

Future plans, 2.0 Zetec on Bike Carbs (which should have purchased tomorrow). So keep an eye out for future updates and any problems i get!

Some pics of her at the moment

Right, small update, started sorting bits out for the 2.0 Zetec. Picking the engine up this week at some point, so dug out my painted zetec rocker cover, which could do with a fresh lick of paint, the 1.8 pick up pipe and also gave the 1.8 sump a lick of paint Some pics:

Sump

Also purchased these to go onto it, along with ESC System

ZX7r Carbs, balanced etc so should be ready to bang onto the engine.

Just need to find some bits and bobs now and pick the engine up..

Quick question, would it be best to spray the gearbox or paint it by hand? What you guys suggest and what paint too?

Started swapping over the suspension today, after finally getting my wheel nuts off i made a start, whipped off the n/s and low and behold it exploded as i took it off.. spring popped out and the top cup had ripped thru! Dampner was leaking loads of oil too. So well shagged, anyways, banged the Spax suspension on and all ok. Took her for a spring, feels much nicer now on the front end. Cornering, bumps, etc. Sorted. Just the rear suspension to do now.. Just need to find some bushes for the back end? Local motor factor dont sell the spring bushes or the top suspension bushes. Any ideas?

Anyways, some pictures:

Picked up some new bits today for the XR2 and also gave the zetec rocker cover another lick of paint and attempted to paint the ZETEC wording on it... Not too good.. but meh!

Got a little annoyed with my bonnet, so gave it a quick clean, nothing too major, will attack the rust and give it a lick of paint another time, but it is gonna be my test bonnet for my next idea.. so see how it all pans out. Also polybushed my new rear trailing arms, and started stripping the gear linkage down for rebuilt and paint. Thinking about quick shifting it.. Dont know if i should yet though? Anyone recommend it?

Anyways, some pics

Will post more interesting updates when i get all the parts i bought and when i actually find a decent engine!

Managed to get a 2.0 Silvertop engine today, finally! Cost me Ł120 golden coins in the end, but came with a car! Runs sweeet as a nut, has had a very recently service too! Started stripping it ready to remove the engine, does anyone know if i can leave the gearbox in place? Will try to get the engine out tomorrow if i get a crane. The blooy thing was a nightmare to work on! No room at all and a bad back! Anyways, some pics:

The damage it was written off for:

If anyone needs bits off the inlet or exhaust, or anything else. Gimme a shout!
