Default replace petrol crossflows with diesels

hi ive got a dificult question for you, but i know theres a few very cleaver chaps out there, i have two ford crossflows in my boat and i want to replace with two ford diesels non turbo and non computerised ,so what do you think will be easyest ford diesel to fit to the bellhousings im not worried about marine stuff, just the basic engine that would fit without too much messing around i just want the basic engine ,that will run when everything gose rong and batterys go dead, the engine will keep running while theres diesel in it ,
would appreciate any advice,thank you

early escort van diesel engines were non turbo I think
although an escort td engine is pretty basic and would suit better IMO

all ford 4cl engines of that vintage have the same bell housing pattern mate
there is a solenoid valve on the pump (shut off valve) this neeeds to be 12v live for it to run, other than that they will run with no external interferance. just a throttle cable and your away. Im sure you could replace the stop solenoid with a mechanical stop if this was going to be an issue.
