Still not back to work after the crash mate so the rapid progress rapidly stopped. I aint got a pot to piss in at the minute fella, its gettin to me now. I wanted to get it built and running and maybe even mapped over winter. Looks like it wont be till summer/autumn before its done now.

I dunno where the new unit is fella, you'll have to drop me a PM of its location

ok peeps , bit more done today , few of the smaller niggly welding jobs sorted

other side done

and k got the floor section fully welded in now , looks fucking ace , well chuffed

you can now see the cradel mounts

idea of the scale of depth we needed for clearance

now as lol everythings been modded at the rear , and the o.e rst tie arm brackets are redundant ,

no point keeping them lol

k has chopped them flush to the face of the leg , all cleaned and prepped

for what u may ask ?

yup as the leg moved inboard the inner edge was exposed so k had boxed it in , should give a nice " allways been that way look " the we like

its been plug selded too the leg and from inside the car ( hence the holes ) , will be smooth as a babys bum and look factory when the stonechip goes on

the front mounts on the cradel will be made of some tube with a threaded boss welded in , and the tube will be notched to step into the new boxxed leg , rather that a big boxy mount ,

ill collect the tube on me way home tomorrow so more on that then

karl got the pass side chassis leg done , needed me to fin work to safely flip the car over to start the other ,

he also welded in the four bolts for the cradel , m12 stainless

few pics ,

karl used his best eye lol

pmsl

also on my way home i picked up some 48mm tube from our local steel supplier

this is to be used for the front cradel mount bosses

so a small section was cut out the back

this was just a test peice ,

a mild steel boss will be machined to sut in tube and recessed for the dowel on the cradel , it will be then tapped for a m12 bolt , and the other end capped to stop water ingress ,

im on girlfriend duties tommorrow morn , so k will be heading out to machine them up ,

more updates over the weekend , should see mods for the exhaust and hopefully start sealing up the floor ready for stonechip

k & b

dont use stainless steel bolts to hold your cradle in they are not as strong as steel bolts softer material means they will break easier!! trust me!!

they are not soft mate quite the opposite infact they are very hard which makes them brittle so yes they will break but not because they are soft

the bolts aint strained guys ,

rember the cradel is on top hat mounts to locate it to the car , these stop the lateral shifting of the cradel , so in essence all there doing is holding the weight of the cradel and diff ,

i got them from work , there not your run of the mill b&q stainless specials ,

if i trust them to hold over 20+ tons of steel and glass up they can manage a 40 kg diff and cradel ,

i can see what your saying , i wouldnt use them on say bolting in tca's ir the link arms

but for this i do belive there more than up to the job ,

beef

bit of a late update

been out to watch tron legacy with the missus , great effects - shit story lol

anyway , managed a hr or two at the gargae eairler , and ke spent the morning at the lathe lol

the new front mount bosses

how it mounts to cradel

top had machined into boss to suit cradel

with the mock tube ( finshied one will be longer )

and how it will look when attached to the leg

this will be fully welded around and k may even drill a hole and plug thru it

hes also been on plating up the pass chassis leg

fully welded now just needs linishing off and primer

so ive made a start on sealing the floor and as theres bits to finish welding ect , i havent been able to finish it , but every inch done is closer to getting the stonechip on

missus is at work all day tomoz so were going to have a full day at it !!!
