Yeah he's loads better he's got hand foot and mouth????

The machine shop now have all the parts to get cracking be he reckons it'll be the end of next week before I will get it back

I even managed to replace the washers for the banjo bolts to the water pipes of the turbo and did a bit of cleaning and tidying in the engine bay! So not all bad

You working on yours tomorrow I assume if so I'll pop over

Well with any luck the head will be back tomorrow and I'll be straight on the case to have it back together

have also get a set of helper springs for the coilovers as every time the cars jacked up the springs don't reseat themselves!

So tonight I set about the rebuild

fitted the cams then the inlet and exhaust manifolds
then sat it on the block and it was then a mate spotted that the stud was a little proud(see first pic) went to tighten it back in to the head and it was just spinning

I'm gutted but at least I know know why it failed now and its an easy enough fix as long as I can get hold of a helicoil set tomorrow or see if the machine shop will sort it while i wait

You don't need them as it was the impact damage that caused them to slip.

Lucky Matt a guy I know drove down the M4 to interpro for a rolling road day stopped and when he restarted the engine the cams moved and bent 8 valves.

Pegged pulleys are the way forward

Nothing wrong with them as long as you don't let the pistons hit the valves.

Mark concerned mine might move only done 50k miles, 27 Topspeed runs with 800bhp up its arse . Its who builds your engine not what pulleys you use. Some of you lads spend a lot of money fixing things before you work that out.

Not good that!

I think I'm still going to change them as it will always be in the back of my mind them coming loose again!

Mark
Lol yeah!
As above mate it's bothering me thinking they could loosen again and see it as peace of mind changing them!

I'm glad to hear yours have been trouble free! And you are correct its who all down to who built it! You only have to look at mine to see that lol
not 1 drip of thread lock anywhere!

But I'm still replacing the cam pulleys!! And trying to get a lockng plate for the tensioner! Not that I'm paranoid or anything!

Well today was the day for a bit more boost!

it was all going so well……Till the turbo decided to call time!

mapping was all done and we were heading back to the workshop when I thought a boost hose had come off (no boost) as it had popped off in the past
then noticed a little waft of smoke from the exhaust pulled over and you could hear the blades catching on the housing

The cars awesome was pulling sooooooo well
Just a shame I need to get a new turbo but thats the chance you take when buying 2nd hand I guess some you win some you loose!

Good idea if it was 1999 . Some Tuners have moved on Steve. Matt really needs to stop & save for a Borg the difference is remarkable.
If finances stop that best not to ask Mark to go in a car with a Borg on it .

My old shitty tech tt36 starts making boost at 2300rpm and at full boost by 3200rpm and holds on to 2 bar plus at 7k good strong reliable turbo !!

Julian uses a t66 to make more power than you have done Rod but who says a old name hasnt got new tech !! Pete kershaw is a very clever man

I am very happy with the way the car was pulling!

Mark was telling me all about the bw and it really does/did sound appealing but I've got to stop somewhere, as always money does play a part in decision making
