Honda Civic SOHC Turbo
Posted from interest in the other topic.
It's a D16Z6, 123bhp 1.6 sohc vtec.
Engine spec is.
Eagle rod's.
YCP pistons (very cheap)
Standard block just honed/glaze busted. 0.004" p2w clearance at largest point.
ACL bearings
Gen honda head gasket.
ARP head studs.
Modified oil pump original 144k mile pump :O
Modified block and girdle for rods to fit.
Head work by myself.
Cheap cast manifold, (soon to make a new 1 but you never get time to do my own car)
Hondata s300, socketed and mapped by me.
6 paddle clutch, custom flywheel, (extra clamping force)
I think that's about it really engine wise.
At brunters it did
0-30 in 2.07
0-60 in 4.76 (did 58mph at the time in second gear )
0-100 in 8.93
quarter in 12.53 at 119.6 (limiter in 4th)
140.6 limiter in 5th i did raise the limiter but couldn't be bothered to do another top speed run as it was never going to be very good.
On the day the car weighed 930kg's plus fuel and me.
It's since had plastic windows and about 30kg's of weight removed from inside the car.
New engine will be built when i get chance for TOTB.

The car was running 12psi the day before brunters, so i went out that night and to map it, i got to 14psi before it started to rain. It was spinning at 105mph in the wet so i had to call it a day.
I finished the map on the way down to brunters and decided it was quick enough when we had a play with a Bentley GT.
I did a couple of run's and a few tweak's on the day. Ended up running 1.5 bar, 23psi to you ford people on a t34 57 trim, 0.63 rear housing.
I ran 12psi for about 6k miles on a standard engine, till it eventually and inevitable bent a rod. The rod was hitting the block and it sounded like the car had spun a shell. See the replacements at the side of it
The new rod and piston combo mean the piston sit 1mm below deck height. (This proved usefull when i hit 10500rpm's shifting from 3rd to second, the only thing that broke was the rotor arm off the dissy. I limped home running some serious antilag'esque timing.)
The first mod (not usually the order people do it)
Back to standard wheels
It's first ever run, (brunters)

I a mate some new shocks and he gave me his old 1s
The rear need's to go stiffer and the front need's to be a little lower with anti lift stops.
This is an everyday car i don't want it to be 2 stiff. it's cool to be able to pick up a spare engine, then out drag an R6 on the way back home
On the brunters testing day i also averaged 29.5mpg, i tanked up on the m1 drove all the way down mapping it, hammered it at brunters had a steady drive home in traffic and tanked it back up.

wicked car, Got some driveshaft shop cro-moly drive shafts and apex coil overs along with 2 B16 engines if you got any people after things. I was building a turbo'd vtec for drag racing but work load has never left me time to build it so selling off all the parts, The civic's are great little cars though, Keep up the good work.

Block guards aren't good IMO. The cooling won't be as good, they will expand at a different rate to the block and liners. All the highest powered D's in the US don't run guards. It needs some solid liners in there but the idea of the car is to be a budget build. Hence, no RC injectors, and no liners.
I could do with some RC750's though now.

As for the loom there ok to do with the right tools.
Dave Bull, thanks for that, i was going to try it around local roads but it's a 250 mile round trip to pod haha.
Are you planning another micra?
#22
I built an Almera GTi with what was left over from the Micra, but have just sold it to a friend.
Really nice car to drive, starts first time, idles and drives nice.
Made 350 WHP at 1 BAR boost on a GT30R at AVA in Glasgow.
It posted a best of 13.5 @ 117.5 about 6 weeks ago at Crail.
Not bad for a car that was driven to the track, raced with full interior, inc. jack and spare and driven home with no issues.
Oh and wheelspin all the way through 1st and 2nd gear...LOL!
Good to see someone doing a fast Civic without the use of a B or K series engine.
Good luck with the car and keep us updated with the progress.
Cheers
Dave
P.S. Have you seen Blueridge Motorsport's Civic with it's D16 + GT35?

The 2nd video is better!
Quite quick!

Nah, I'm done with FWD cars, as you are always fighting wioth traction issues.

Traction is always a problem, but part of the fun in FWD. I've got an Evo as a main car.
My car spins 1st 2nd and 3rd on the strip with r888's needs some chassis work and wrinkle walls really.
I went for the D series to be different, nobody touches them in this country it seems.
Nice power you made, the GT30's seem to always make good power at low boost.

The new engine is all stripped down now, just waiting for pistons then i can send the block of to be machined. It's going to be pretty close getting the new engine mapped etc before TOTB, pistons will be a week, block will be a couple of days after that.
I made a new collector for the new manifold last night so that should be ready, i'm hoping to get a week for running in and mapping. But i can see this been another map on the way down.
Old engine will be out tonight.

Stripped 2 engines last night and gathered all the bit's to build a nice 1. Only waiting on a GEN headgasket now and it can be built back up for TOTB.
Picking some RC750s up later, but there low IMP and the ECU is high impedance.
A few internal thing's i'm doing slightly different this time.
Then i better start on the chassis work.
After TOTB this car is going onto LPG.

Yes i was just running a 100% standard engine, on the ar5e dyno i reckon it was doing over 250bhp, It was in full trim then so 1040kg's and it was slightly quicker than a 320bhp evo.
The engine had done 144,000 when i stripped it i reckon it was on the stock head gasket from the factory and the history suggest it had only had 1 cambelt change!
I didn't deliberately break it, but pushed well beyond it's capable limit's knowing what was going to happen. I wouldn't do this to some1 else's car but i don't mind on my own.
If you need anything drop me a PM.

Quick update, i'l get some damage pic's when i can.
I broke a shaft which in turn broke a box 2 day's before.
I changed the shaft, then the day after realised I had to change the box.
Anyway finally got to map it and got a puncture on the m1. I got home about half 11 on sat night. Got up at 6 to finish mapping on sunday and broke the turbo (very bent shaft, smashed core etc) The shaft stop so quick the nut came off the impellor side.
So with a new turbo fitted at the side of the M18 on the way to TOTB we set back off, did about 5 miles of mapping and thought we'd got it pretty good.
Car was slow on the day, only managed 112 over the line, and was running rich.
I did 4th in handling (on my first go, and then spun on the second go with no time to do a 3rd run)
And 7th in drag. 12.53 at 110mph. The car was going pretty good off the line, just had no power (was really rich in 4th, higher boost levels)
