The End Of Yum!!!

sorry to here this dave but its probley for the best unless you win the lotto in the next few weeks lol just a shame you never got that magic 200 but then again does it really matter ?as the cost involded and the danger of it all for me doesnt add up. Shame that you are going to break it completely and as others had said sell the bits you dont need and slap a gt30 on it with a 63 and hit the track, you will have loads of fun doing it and a few quid in the bank, i know that you have spent quite a bit on yum in the last year or so and at the moment with the credit crunch ect people dont seam to have much spare money so may be it would be better to keep the car in a lower spec and try and recoup some money back with the bits you dont need ??
anyway best of luck with it all and will catch up with you at a show
cheers

Clearly something going on to be making you think of selling up but that isn't mine or anyones business so you do what you feel is right.
I'm with Porkie on this one, either de tune it and have some fun or buy something that won't let you down everytime you jam the throttle to the floor.
Tuning it to that next stage WILL end in more costs and although I don't know your financial situation I'm going to guess that having to find a more suitable gearbox and a 9" diff is something you could possibly do without having to spend money on.
Taking a break from it is definately a good start.

Dave/Helen, l think you have come so close to your dream/goal that to stop now, would you maybe regret it later down the line, l am pretty sure between you and Mark you guys know what it will take to get there and Martin seems to have no intrest in pushing it further.
I get the impression though from reading that there is more to this than meets the eye ! maybe l am wrong

Anyone woulda thought this was the only Escort Cossie in the World. lol
if the man has his reason, he has his reasons.
Guess the mega build wasn't as good as expected and Dave lost faith in the whole car itself.
The only thing id be sorry about this car, is that it is an Escort cossie and wouldn't like to see it being Broken into parts. The more on the road the better i say.

I honestly dont understand why you have caused yourself so much heart ache and pain for 200mph. The Escort was never designed for it in the first place and you've put all that money into a car which you have seen barely any enjoyment out of.
I can imagine Porkie's Sierra engine in the car which would be super reliable, and stupidly fast on the road and the track would make an awesome car.
You should never of tried to compete against Martin because I imagine a big part of him wanting to do 200mph was for business purposes.
Benni.

If your sick of the car, sell it! There will always be new problems with a car of this high tune, then you will have to go trough it again and again.. Not trying to be negative, only realistic..

I'd stick with your gut instinct, decision time only warps your common sense and can talk you round to doing things that aren't always for the best.
I'd sell/break it.

I thought this was gettting split months ago but then Mr Yum decided against that to continue... Now its being split again... Or is it!
Surely just keep it in a garage and wait until the time comes when you know what your actually wanting to do.

some times its realy hard to no what is the right thing to do when it comes to cars, my wife hates them she says they take up lots of your time and lots of your money (if only she new) you are realy lucky that cossie helan is behind you and your car.. but dave you have to do what is rigrt for you and helan at the end of the day .its not other peoples money and time that goes into it.. only thing i would say is dont rush into anything to quickly m8 . it would be a shame to sell it and then wish you hadnt..

I have had loads of fun with building this all my own work not taken to a garage and say build this.
Have had YUM for 10 years now and there you go, if l wanted to rebuild it then l could. Money is not a issue so there you go had some really good times in it and some great figures that will take alot of beating.
Cheers
Ps to all the haters that find the time to read this tread, get a life because by the look of it you need to get out some more, oh l forgot you cant...
I can see you looking

So sad to hear this dave- very difficult decision to make I’m sure
I know you wanted to see the magic 200 but what you have achieved is nothing short of spectacular -the way people talk about the top speed runs on here you’d think everybody was building 200mph cars at home in their lunchtime - the fact is very few can and even fewer will even get close
the fact that you did not see the figure on the day is no proof that the car could not do it- different location and different conditions would have given a different result, who knows
I know you have some tough decisions to make but bare in mind that underneath all the go faster bits is a very clean escos in the best colour available- you sure you want to get rid of it completely?? – it will be very hard to replace if you have a change of heart
And as for fading into the background you got no chance- who’s going to cook breakfast at croft next year????
Good luck to you both with whatever you decide and look forward to seeing you again

Dave, i dont personally know u, martin or any of the MAD lot but, i wish i was involved in the scene/u lot (hope that doesnt sound gay, im 100% straight lol) and wish i had the money to be creating cars like yours, porkies etc etc. I can empathise completely with how it gets to a point where u just cant do it anymore. Nothing to do with me or any the others but i notice your other half hasnt replied on here since u broke the news so dunno if its anything to do with her losing heart but i really feel your probably right to quit now, whilst your ahead of nearly every other cossie owner with exception of martin. Just think mate, martin owns the company so balls out motors are gonna be alot easier and less personal money zapping. Your a normal guy who has beeen managing to keep up in the game and to that amount of spendature and determination i take my hat right off to u.
I think though personally, if u was to definitly call it a day, then put a lower spec engine in it just so yum could always be admired for years to come. Its a shame the engine broke when it did, u cant help but think what if we pushed it way to its or just passed it limits for just one run to see if that magic 200 would appear just before something shit itself, but who am i to comment like that, im sure u were running on full steam to get to the amount u achieved. Be happy with 194 mate, just think 194 in a ford escort. Bloody well done, all the best in what u decide to do mate
