the new donnor

not quite 2.0 power, but gotta be better than gAy Sieres
![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
these small block vaux engines are a fairly straight forward conversions, they fit under the standard length front end, more power reliably, more tuning options, a better selection of gearboxes, and not designed in the stone ages

I can see where you are going with this now.
A few years ago, i saw a couple of mini's at a local show and they had the 2.0 16v calibra engines in. 1 was turboed. You have made a good choice of engine. Look forward to seeing it fitted.

shouldnt be very difficult tbh mate, im buying the subframe and driveshafts ready done, just need to weld in a small box to the bulkhead to give the gear selector some room and mount the vaux gearstick mechanism on top of the tunnel.
on the wiring front ive only got 7 wires to sort out, and that includes rev counter, speedo, engine managment light etc, and im gonna run a motorbike digidash so most of thats taken care of.
the only bits ive got to sort are the exhaust and fuel system.

been a bit, well very lazy lately ![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
Plans changed, again
and i sold the 1.6 and bought this
![](http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r159/fraser9764/P7260110.jpg)
X18XE1, freshly rebuilt, ebay bargain at Ł200. it will be a bit more work to get it running but shouldnt be too bad. I will need a custom inlet and exhaust manifold, and a bit more work on the wiring front. but should be 114bhp and about 120lb/ft standard, and the manifolds should give it a little more as the standard ones are very restrictive.
a bloke i know through work is making the inlet for a bargain price, going for a mantzel style box, and i am going to have a go at the exhaust myself coz ive just bought a new welder.
subframe and bits have arrived, well impressed! the quality is superb, made completeley from scratch, no butchered metro subframes here![](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/roi.gif)
cracked on yesterday and welded in my bulkhead box to give clearence for the gear linkage and the hole in the right place for the shaft back to the lever.
also welded in some 2.5mm plate on the floors to stiffen up the lower subframe mounts.
then offered her up and she fitted first time.
just need to swap my suspension over now which might require a bit of fiddling as the mounts aren't identical

![](http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r159/fraser9764/P7260107.jpg)
![](http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r159/fraser9764/P7260108.jpg)
ive also been messing about starting to run cut off cables
![](http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r159/fraser9764/P7260106.jpg)
and i bought some FIA approved harnesses from EARS motorsport at macclesfield (they were a lot cheaper than the likes of saebelt) and are probably made in the same factory
)
![](http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r159/fraser9764/P7260102.jpg)
and also mounted my dash behind my new steerywheel, again from EARS, and its a lovely wheel, suede with the yellow band at the top.
the braket for the dash might have to be lengthened when i get everything back together properly but you get the idea.
![](http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r159/fraser9764/P7260103.jpg)
should have the engine in this week hopefully to measure up for the manifolds.

this project is going toooo slow ![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
starting to get going again now though, been doing a bit recently
right, finally got some daylight to take some photos and bring this up to date.
Engine Bay is getting there, engine in, alty mounted, exhaust manifold nearly done ( i picked up a 2.0xe stainless 4-2-1 from the scrappy for Ł30 and chopped it about), just need to get an alty belt, get the flange back from the machinists for my exhaust manifold and the plenum so i can chop down my 1.6 vectra inlet untill the bonet fits and get them welded up. then its wiring and plumbing time
pedal box is also on its way so i can get the clutch cable connected.
![](http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r159/fraser9764/24102009058.jpg)
![](http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r159/fraser9764/24102009059.jpg)
new seats, passenger one just needs bolting in but the inside needs another coat of paint due to the extra cage pieces. One across the dash and one behind the seats which picks up the tunnel in the centre.
![](http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r159/fraser9764/24102009061.jpg)
![](http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r159/fraser9764/24102009063.jpg)
![](http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r159/fraser9764/24102009065.jpg)
Gear linkage in and working, the lever sits nice and close to the wheel and the handbrake still works
![](http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r159/fraser9764/24102009064.jpg)
I've been round the scrappies today and picked up some Bargains!
Ł45 for this lot, plus the thermostat housing which is already fitted.
(yes i have got the chip to go with the transponder and ecu)
also got the chance to draw a few diagrams of standard coolant system and work out what wire connects to which sensor.
