German Escort MK3 Cosworth 4x4 - @Ford Fair 2017
So it's time to present my project, which I planed for quite a long time.
Actually, I don't know how much time I spent in looking around for all conversions done by you english neighboars...
It's not a secret that I have much respect of Wenny's Escort Cosworth... I love your car!
Outside absolutely clean... inside motorsport stuff...
So as you can guess... mine will be also absolutely clean...
So back again to my project:
Some months ago I bought a crashed Sierra Cosworth 4x4... The shell was garbage, but the rest was ok...
Next job was to find a Escort MK3 shell... and here it is...
It's in an amazing good condition. No rust!!! And that for 150 Euro (I think about 100 pounds)
Then I looked around for a Sierra 4x4 shell, so that I can take the floor pan out.
I took out everything of both shells...
In order to fit in perfectly the floor pan of the Sierra in the MK3 sheel, I had to weld up a kind of measurement frame or jig...
The frame is welded... the rest will be bolt on so that I can use the frame for future conversions... You never know...
All important mounting points like engine, stabilisator or gearbox will be on the frame, just like a fingerprint...
Here is the frame
the first brackets...
guide rails...
Yesterday I drew some guides, which will helps me in centering the axles perfectly...
These parts will be lasercutted in the following days...
That's it up to now... Updates will follow soon...
Cheers
Cyril
For my German friends: Jep... alles mit TÜV...

@Guido: thanx again... but nothing compares to your freaking Focos!
@Wenny: first, I want to put the Sierra floor pan into the Escort and put in the stock engine... when everything works fine and TUV approved, I wanna go for much more power... like 450 hp... But as I'am not an egine specialist, I can't tell you at this point what exactly will be done on the engine... I have to talk with Guido
@blacky: I'll take the complete floor pan form the backseats to the front... I'll keep the Sierra track... The rear axle will be fixed on custom made brackets

as wenny says the front wheels will stick out he had wheels made to get round this
on his van the bottom arm's & driveshafts have been shortened & the anti rollbar pinched a bit to get the track down so the wheels sit right
saying that for ease of build & repair keep it sierra track

What a great project and top quality work building the frame
Looks like you have a rather nice place to work out off and all, well equipped thats for sure.
Keep up the good work and keep the pics and updates coming. Will be keeping an eye on this as always fancied building a rwd mk3

Thanx everybody for the positive comments...
I'm just back from my workshop and did the first measurements on the Sierra... tomorrow, I will put the Escort on the jig and continue the measurements... I think, that during the week I will decide where to place the cuttings on both shells...
@RST Appie: The car will get TÜV... alle important steps especially the welding is under survey of an engineer
@blacky: I'm quite sure to keep the Sierra track... I don't need to shorten anything, as I will put on some rims which will fit perfectly to the arches.

@Stefan (XR2): Jep... as mentioned, the construction is under survey of a TÜV engineer and will be road legal... I won't have started the project unless I am not sure to be able to go on the road and have alot of fun
Today I put the Escort on the jig and measured a littlebit around... It's amazing, but both shells are quite similar... Never thought that...
Pics coming tomorrow...
Cheers
