Cosworth KA - 2015.......what to do??
#1895
Had a night off last night, but got back on track today.*
Got bulkhead painted in body colour on Wednesday.
Fitted some reflective heat foil on bulkhead today
Spent the afternoon getting the engine ready to go back in:
New oil pump, ARP conrod bolts, Touring Car Spares gated baffle, new water pump (converting it to 4x4 set up).
Got engine back in and aligned with gearbox only for 3 out of the 6 threaded holes in the bell housing stripped*
Going to borrow helicoil kit of a friend in the morning and replace them all.
So hopefully engine back in tomorrow.
23 days till it goes to JKM

Made some good progress today, started off by heli coiling the bell housing threads. Did all four of them to ensure they are all as strong as possible.
Then refitted engine ( again * *).*
Better picture of inlet trial fitted, showing the extra room created by modifying the bulkhead
Torqued the head down now the engine is secure in the shell. Few issues to sort this week....
1. Fit throttle body to see what mods are needed to boost pipe.
2. Make some extra mounts for the intercooler.
3. Re visit the power steering hose layout.
All on track though*

As usual, things never go to plan
After a few issues with the change of coolant set up from 2wd to the better 4wd layout got the car to JKM, although 24hours late
Left the car there for Dr Jim to do his stuff......
Some minor snags later, and a bottle of thread lock gone, the result was...
Collected the car and left pondering Jims thoughts.........."that's going to be a handful"
So onto Bedford 2014....... An early start at 0230 for the 280mile drive on the beavertail. Had to make do with just my Bufty wheels as unable to get track wheels due to bad weather closing the bridge over to Cornwall where they are stored
Arrived in time for track briefing, signed on and then got car off and over for noise testing....now 90.1db @ 4000rpm compared to 87.5db at Brands in 2012.
However, the tyres combined with the conditions and a 2bar boost spike made spinning the wheels in 5th down the back straight quite good fun !
Track dried after lunch, if only briefly, and got a chance to feel how it picked up with some traction.*
Front arb has made a difference, but to what extent I won't know until I get a dry day in. And had no overheating issues either on rolling road or track. Now fitted with a turbo cooler as well for extra safety
Car does look good on THs*
Next outing is at Combe next month, so going to fit some stiffer front springs, hopefully a rear arb, and of course the R888s (weather permitting).
