mig is one of the strongest welders out there paul lol if its not biting the steal tern the heat up to get it bite better or try feading the cable in at different speeds. hitting it a few times is not going to compar to thousands of miles of gear changing

i was under the inpression the mig was stronger i stand corrected.
why is the mig a more commonley used welder sureley if mig and arc was the same it would be cheaper to be useing the arc to save on the expence of gas?

i think im going to keep it like this and it addition along the lines of what crazycage is suggesting by spanning it into the floor, then bolting a plate on the inside and outside of the floor pan to tie it in. ill see when i can be bothered to play with it again lol.

been busy mate, been on holiday and now im back im trying to set up my own business as fed up sub contracting so been out and about pricing work etc lol and pricing doesnt pay till you start the work lol. I think after the 15th il send the car off to have shafts made and dash flocked (dont collect cage till then so cant trim dash for cage). may try and fit pedal box and get lines etc sorted though .

nice to see the conversion moving along mate,
just to give you some ideas.see the link to my fiesta.
i have bolted a focus crossmember into my fiesta bay, added mk3 mondeo ball joints, used modded st24 hubs/shafts.and could easily bolt in the mondeo g/box,without buying shafts.
i have made it difficult by wanting to use the 6 speed box lol

cheers loyd, much appreciated, i prob wont opt for the subframe type option as it will lower the floor level more and my car drags on grass in alley at present lol + need to be able to fit exhaust through. I think ill opt for bracing it back into the floor and plate it either side of floor and bolt up in addition to whats already done?
