Default rwd mk2 fiesta

i had my mk2 xr2 car for around a year then fitted a 1.8 zetec 130 bhp with bike throttle boddies run by megasquirt. my plans were then to hillclimb it, but after finishing it a decided i wanted something different so the pictures below will show what i done so far, sorry about the amount and order of some of the photos ive quite a lot of them

with no jig i needed to find where to put the crossmemeber so after a while of measuring i came up with this

then mocked up a new inner wing to get rough measurments

then out came the grinder

then welded in new inner wings

then decided i wanted it to look like a mk1 fiesta with big arches so off with the front

and on with the mk1 the wings arent welded yet but soon will be

and also made a few rust repairs behind the wings

started to put a tunnel in it for the box and have removed the mk2 scuttle for the mk1 ive got and this is how it sits now, ive got mk2 suspension for the front and rear so hopfully should handle ok, ill be using compression struts not sure wether to use a roll bar as wel or maybe a roll bar on its own but ive plenty of time to think about it

my struts before and after

hope you all like it so far should be back out to it soon ive hurt my back so havent been out to it in a few weeks but hopfully get out soon

only a small update havent been out at it for a few weeks as ive a sore back but since its not feeling as sore i thought its about time i tackled the scuttle pannel. i cut it down to whatt i needed then set it up as a mock up to see how it fitted and its not to far off so im happy. then to try and stop any rust i painted the bit that will be hard to get at once the scuttle pannel is welded in and covered the under side of the pannel in krust this stuff must have been invented for fords. hopfully tomorrow ill get the underside of the scuttle pannel painted then welded in place then the wings shouldnt to far after it

im going for a mk1 front end because im putting bigger arches on it and think the mk1 looks better with arches than the mk2, ive started on the rear end so first i needed to cut a hole and measure up for the 4 link boxs and diff tunnel and finnish the gearbox tunel i dont have a metal folder so i had to use 2 bit of metal and a vice it worked so it saved me a couple of quid. it still needs a good bit of work to finish the areas off but im sure youll all get the idea, im using an atlas axle at the rear it works on mk2 escorts so dont see why it shouldnt work on this and should make it easier to get the back end out using a live axle

i made a start to joining up the gearbox tunnel and filling in the hole i cut in the rear, both link boxs are now in but with the n/s one only measured to fit and tacked in place should get a good bit more done at the weekend

did a bit more to the rear i want to cut out the boot and raise it up flat so i needed to make a bit to join the 4 link boxs to it so first i had to cut another hole then make a peice and see if it fitted, its not 100% but its close enough to do me. i now need to spend a few days clearing out the garage its annoying how quickly it fill up with door pannels seats and rusty bits of metal you cut out, ill need the room because its getting close for whan i want the car on split to get the under side started, ive also started to try and fit a set of mk2 escort forrest arches well the drivers front for a start but it doesnt look to bad ill be fitted a front spoiler as well just dont have that yet

havent been out to the car in ages and i found my thread a few pages in so i thought id better get back out to it or it wont get done.Ive just made a start at some of the smaller bits that seem to take up the most amount of time by joining the rear 4 link boxs to the car.ill hopfully get back out during the week and should have a roll over jig made up soon to make working under it a bit easier

was out for a bit over the weekend and got more of the rear done, got the brackets for the axle welded on and test fitted it the 4 link bars need cut down a bit but not a hard job to do, i also cut part of the boot floor out and raised it up for a platform for the fuel tank to go and also means i can mount the exhaust higher up without worry about it hitting something when i lower the car.And while i was at it got the rear turetts made and welded in and ive decided to look for a honda s2000 engine for it i cant find another engine with 240bhp and 9000rpm for the money.

was there any reason why you made complete new inner wings instead of moving the strut tops out

right havent updated in a while so ill just put up a few pictures to show were im at with it. I cut out the rear tubs and made new ones so ill be able to use bigger wheels and get it lower to the ground and just need the finish off welding up the n/s/r tub then i can get the car up on the jig and get the underside properly finished
