didn't get a chance to update this last week.
had rounds 3 and 4 last weekend at brands hatch, wanted to make sure everything was top notch for brands after the bad start to the season. it was a nice easy build up to the race, everything was sorted well before the race. the first race was on saturday, wake up saturday morning and it was very wet out! i've never driven the car in the wet so wasn't sure how it would perform, i drove to the track as i live 20 minutes away, thought i'd see how the grip was on route, it's fair to say their wasn't any wheelspin in every gear didn't feel me with much confidence,
met up with tony ryan from touring car spares who kindly took time out to come and help us all out and i have to say a massive thank you to tony
he got the car handling so well, instructing the guys what to do, making us all work as a team, it made the whole thing so much easier,
first session out was wet and i just wanted to make sure everything was ok as it is the first time the engine had been driven in anger, and it was wet on track, had a little spin
second session and it started to dry up, was quickest in my class in warm up, after talking to tony and telling him what the car was doing handling wise and braking, he instructed doug and dan what to do, and even got he's gloves on!! the guys adjusted camber and tony found a problem with the brakes which was resulting in the fronts grabbing and locking up as soon as i touched them on the start/finsih straight.
qualifying and the track had dried completly, all of the little tweaks that the guys done totally transformed the car and i finsihed fastest in my group
final,, their was nothing that had been changed as i was happy with the car, unfortunatly the car had a slight misfire during the end of the session and with only 20 minutes i tried to drive it out, i finsihed second quickest,
sunday morning the guys changed the plugs cleaned the dizzy cap and leads as we thought it was oil leaking from the cam cover gasket leaking on to the dizzy causing the mis.
went out for warm up and the misfire was still their, pulled in to the pits and it cut out and wouldn't start back up, it had lost its spark, pulled the crank sensor plug off and it was full of oil!
james from msd had come down on sunday and got stuck in doug had taken the cam cover off and james told him to check the front cam carrier cap bolts were tight, the thread had pulled out!! so after some fiddling around they studded it put it back together and it is dry as a bone
out for qualifying and the car felt really good i set my quickest time of the whole weekend on my second lap so i thought i would come in and try 2 clicks harder on the rear suspension, we all dont know what happened but somehow it got confused to going 2 clicks softer! i go out not knowing this try to set a quick lap and the car was more like a drift car so after 1 lap i come back to put it back to original setings as i am in a official comes to make sure evrything was ok as their was reports of smoke coming from the car, (turns out it was tyre smoke) as i was sideways all the way around clearways, i couldn't beat my time but qualified quickest in my class
final and i was feeling confident we had worked out that i would set my quickest lap time on my first lap so it was essential that i got a clear lap straight away, which thanfully i think everybody else tried to do as i got a clear lap straight away, setting my quickest time 2 tenths slower than my qualifing time,i made sure that my friend chris was on the pit wall with my pit board letting me know my position, as the chequered flag was waved chris had p1 on the board
i was a little excited which ended up in me drifting a few corners, which i had to go see the clerk of the course to get a telling of for
all in all it was a great weekend and i wouldn't have done it if it wasn't for having such great mates who love to help. and tony ryan telling them all what to do
