Default Escos Cosworth Hillclimb Project

It all started June 2005. Picked up my Gp A shell in Kassel, Germany.

Arrived back in Dresden and gave it a little clean.

The wiring was completely renewed by my son and myself. This job we did at home, Mrs Allan is very understanding.

This is the old loom.

That has to be about the funniest photo I've ever seen of an Escort Cosworth! This should be an interesting thread, I'm quite interested and mildly involved in hillclimbing. What plans do you have, bar a divorce?

Brakes and suspension ready.

Fitted onto car.

The wipers were also converted to a single blade.

August 2005.
The new fuse box and hydraulic handbrake. (ok, so its not really necessary).

More mods to the wiring loom.

Panel ready for new pedal box and cylinders etc.

Sept 2005/April 2006.
The dashboard is finished with the new Stack 8130. Boost gauge mounted to Carbon dash insert. cost a bloody fortune. Dash weighs 2.5kg.

I found that photo above funny because of the silly little wheels Looks like it's been coming on well over the last year, 2.5kg dash sounds helpful! Keep the pics coming

Oct 2005.
Front bumper before painting.

Borrowed Bonnet from Rally car. will eventually get my own. This one weighs about 2kg.

The original rear Diff was installed, as the replacement 7.5", 3.92:1 is still in the other car.

Still Oct 2005.

Rear Bumper left Black until later. Notice Fuel cap not on rear qtr. Photo taken just before Polycarbonate windows fitted.

Photo shows original wheels + Michelin wets. Later changed to 17's due to larger brakes. (this pic taken before Oct).

Original tca's fitted last year.

Thanks to M Hadland for a great price on those MO's.

Those things are for the stands where they put the car on.
They slide into those tubes.

Stunning car you have there!

Really impressed by the Dash and bonnet weight's! What material are they both made from, carbon?

Can't wait to see this car run!

That looks stunning! Really is a credit to you mate!

Can you confirm that the bonnet and dash etc are carbon?

What sort of power does it run? Looks very flat through the corners!

Hi Dan

sorry to disappoint you but,

wings are WRC, fiberglass.
Bonnet is Fiberglass, its a bit flexible, needs strengthening.
Front Bumper is WRC, Carbon/Kevlar.
Rear tailgate is still metal, heavily cut back. A lot of metal is removed.
Dash is original but really stripped back, a lot of material removed from the back. Carbon sections inserted.

The cost of the parts is bloody awful, add the painting and I hate to count it up.

The engine has only been chipped with the cylinder head now held down by stud and nut kit. WRC gasket installed by previous owner. (Ford garage).
1.5bar max boost.
290ps.
446Nm. ( RR figures ).
The car probably looks flat due to that video was made during training run so speed was not too high, to be honest the car only went 3 secs faster the next day.
2.03Km uphill, approx 11 corners, from standing start. pb-1m 12.2 secs.
(AMG Merc, ex DTM - 1m 5secs).

Just for interest. Heres a couple of photos of my car in 2004.

oops, how did that get in there.

Back to 2006.
Fitted the Pro Alloy cooler.

April, rear wing and skirts still missing.

June, new rear brakes, Rainbird/Reyland.

fitted adjustable tca's.

new spoiler arrived.

All corner weights set up this month. Geometry set up, car is much better in the corners now. Also managed to find optimum bump and rebound settings.

July, slight accident this month - back into the garage for a week.

also some new parts arrived.

August

October. new wheels arrived for wet tyres.

winter 2006/2007 to follow.
