Default mk2 escort build

I thought it was about time I stuck some pictures up of my new project.

Its a group 4 specced mk2 Escort RS2000, It has had a hell of a lot of work carried out on the shell so there isn't too much that needs doing before it can be blasted then painted

I brought it off Andyescos off here a few months back and so far I haven't really done much to it at all due to just not having the space and time to touch it.

Spec of the shell is :

New inner wings, new outer wings, new floorpans, new splash panels, new fabricated parcel shelf, Grp4 round turrets, Ralloy Big gearbox tunnel, big diff tunnel, 4x seat bars, 5 linked, 4 link box brace, Works 14 point cage, Double skin bulkhead, engine bay gussets, Compression struts and new TCA's, Rolling on a Gartrac built Atlas axle and RS 4 spokes.

It has Gaz fully adjustable coilovers all round with rose jointed top mounts on the fronts.

I have had a Yb sitting around now for over 14 months which before being fitted will have a freshen up

Basic spec of Engine is :

New 200 block
Balanced Bottom end
Pocketed Pistons
Flowed cylinder head
New T34.48

Engine has only covered 5k since it was built by A1 but as it has sat around so long I'm too worried about running it without inspection

It was running stage 3 (greens) but I will most probably have it long studded and run on a set of greys with a wrc head gasket as I plan to use Nitrous on it eventually as I dont want any expensive failures once it is fitted.

I have been looking into the Pro Alloy IC and Rad combo but I'm still unsure wether this is a good route as it seems not many have gone down this route as of yet, so any info and advice on that would be appreciated.

I'll update the thread as soon as parts start arriving and other fabrication has been completed

cheers for the BTTT

Its actually quite different now but still not painted. I've just not had my camera with me when I've been up there.

Next step is getting it dipped which should hopefully not reveal anything bad, if all is good it will be a case of replacing the roof, fitting the arches ( now I've actually made my mind up which ones!) and then off to the paintshop.

Main thing is it that it saved chopping into the chassis legs which tbh I was advised against doing.

I sometimes think the IC could do with being bigger but time will tell and Nitrous will still bring the act's down when I'm up the strip which is usually when I expect to see act's after q-ing for ages.

mossymk4 It was originally Slymanrs2's shell from OSF, I brought it off a guy on PF who sold it for another great shell which he has now sold to Paul @ North Yorks RS Spares.

Only issue I have is a non improving wage and a bit of a liking for gigs recently but as they say, good things come to those who wait !

Kev Warn gave me some good advice:

Get a idea of costs in your head

Then tripple it

well the car cost me
Ł1200

ive then spent about Ł500 on bits (most of which i dont want as i have now changed my mind on which route im going down with the car)

and Ł1k on a 2.1 pinto.

been quoted just under Ł2k for the welding work from retromotorsports, then i need brakes, suspension, wheels ect.

the carbon fibre is costing over Ł1500!

I WILL get the car done tho..

i wish i could go cossy.....but being only 19, the insurance would kill me! Plus i have my everyday car to run.

just had conformation about gaz doing me some coilovers so another step further! Hopefully i can contact retro around march when ive got enough money to send it off, i did want most of it done for this summer, so i can save over the winter, but we shall see!

Not too bad mate,i spoke to Joe earlier and the pistons are in and the head and cams are on . Just got to decide what colour cam cover and pulleys i want and what turbo i am fitting, the headwork thats been done will make the engine good for 500+bhp but i think i will settle for around 480ish . Dont want it being too laggy .
Ive had the compression lowered to 7:5:1 so i dont think it will be as responsive as before, but should be good fun still

Well done for finding the thread I've lost track of the amount of times I'd looked for it.

Sadly no real updates, well no pictures anyway which is quite useless.

Planned Yb engine has been sold, I'm now fitting a C20LET with between 450-500 off gas, that typically should be semi built within a few months as I'm only waiting on the pistons from Omega and the big valve head.

You lied, you told me this thread had vanished!

Only kidding.

Be interesting to see the engine build up
