Default My Past & Present RS's

Not done one of these threads before and seeing Paul's one has inspired me to put one of my own up! I've always been into the MK3 / MK4 Escorts but it was the MK4 that I preferred as an all rounder really. With mates getting S2's before me (me being a tad younger) I was inspired to get one after always going out in their cars which made me more determined to own one

The First One - 1989 'G' 90 Spec Black S2 - G262 OHG

My first S2 was mint. It had covered about 70K from new and had only 3 or 4 owners I picked it up back in 2000 in near standard (bar a full magnex) form from a guy up in Scunthorpe iirc for the small sum of £1850. I was very impressed with the car and wanted something standard to start with! Being only 18 at the time insurance was a bit of a problem! Anyway to cut a long story short because of insurance reasons I had to sell up after only a couple months ownership. Thinking back now if I had the space I would have garaged the car as I really didn't want to sell it as by now you can guess I was hooked with the RS bug Anyway I ended up selling the car to a couple of guys up north who came down to see it and it was sold to the first buyer to see the car! I was sad to see it go but made a tidy profit on it, selling the car for £2800.

Here are the few pics I managed to take of the car at the time

I'm sure the car is still around and would love to know where it is and what it looks like now!

My Second S2 - 1990 'H' 90 Spec Black S2 - H146 VVG

My next S2 was purchased around late 2002 / early 2003 in the mean time building up a bit of ncb for the insurance! I picked the car up local to me and it was a car that was known by mates and was one of two cars the local Ford garage had for sale many years back. It seemed like a good cheap car, it had FSH, tax, some test and loads of receipts for work that had been done over the years. It set me back £1700. (But had done a fair few miles, 120 odd K)

Here are some pics

When I First Got It

The car had a few mods exhaust, samco's, d/v, clear lights, lowered etc but again nothing much as I wanted a near standard car.

Some More Pics, Mongoose & 90 Front Bumper Fitted And A Good Polish

You might think the car looked pretty clean, but it really wasn't! It was a bit of a "heat of the moment purchase” and I regretted it! Anyway, when the test came round it failed quite miserably and needed a fair bit of weldin doing! As I didn't know anyone that could do the work at the time I had to get the garage to do it and forked out for it. I then just drove the car probably for about another 9 months or so before I decided that the car just wasn't as clean as I wanted it to be (didn't help the first one being mint! ) and decided to start pulling it apart for a resto and to have mods done like smoothed / cut out bumpers, delocked etc etc. My mate helped me with this and he arranged for the car to be stored in a workshop for us to strip it and rebuild it. After stripping it and finding the arches were fooked, under the carpet the floor was fairly bad, and the bay had seen better days I decided it was going to need too much work to get it sorted and I gave up on it (Although did continue for a fair while initially!) I basically broke the car for spares and made a fair bit of money back on the bits but still lost out on the car and just put it all behind me!

The Third & Current S2 - 1989 'G' 90 Spec Diamond White S2 - G325 KHE

I've had my current S2 for nearly 2 years now and this time set out to find an as clean as possible S2 once more! This car was actually advertised on PF! and sounded exactly what I was looking for, a low mileage (50K) again standard! 1 owner from new car. I wanted a standard car and not some modded thrashed shitbox S2 so I could mod it how I wanted it and so I knew that it had not had a hard life (like the previous car had! ) Again the car was purchased from up north and after looking over the car with a fine tooth comb I parted with my hard earned and picked up a genuine bog standard clean car for £2900 (Asking price was 3K, which I thought was about right IF it was as good as it sounded I could only knock him a oner as the bumpers needed a bit of paint from a couple of "scuff" marks on the front and that's all we could find wrong with the car! The car came with a long test, plenty of tax and the service book was stamped with a full Ford main dealer service history from 89.

Some Pics Of When I First Got It, Totally Standard

The car I don't think had EVER had a polish in it's life and was more manky brown than white! It took me about a week (no joke) in cleaning, buffing, grime removing, polishing to get the paint to shine!

Cleaned, Bumpers Painted, Clear Lights, Smoked Rears & New Decal, Chrome Half Cage, Opening Rear 1/4's, Mongoose

Few Months Later, RS7's, Engine Bay Clean Up, Full Samco's, 3 Spoke Wheel, Lowered 20mm, RS Mudflaps, Head Light Protectors

I've also done an underside clean up on the car as the rest was looking nice and clean and the underneath was errr mucky! I won't put those pics up as there are 8 pages worth so far! the thread can be seen here: https://passionford.com/forum/viewto...853&highlight=

And Finally The Car Now,Underside Finished, Orange Indicators , Discs All Round, ABS Removed, Black Plates, Gauges, Cage Gone!

Christ this took ages! Currently planning on having a big spec engine built and tidy up a few bits in the bay I am not happy with.

Cheers Rad!

Yes, finding a tidy car is hard work really! Mind you some of the examples on this site are amazing and tbh if I was shopping for another I'd buy from here for sure. What's happening with your current S2? I though't you were getting the shell prep'd? Or are you getting another one aswell as the track car?

No engine spec decided yet tbh! well not fully, I'll update my thread in the resto section one day

Cheers Lee. I felt something was missing mainly with the arse end and thought the black plates set it off being a white car. Yea, get a thread up! your old S2 was minted

Nice story mate and some cool pics there!

You know what I think of your car so I wont have to say too much, but all I will say is reckon you've ended up with the right one and made a good choice with the white rather than black!

Now hurry the fuck up with that engine build and TELL ME THE SPEC!!

Wow you can notice some difference between the car when it was polished for a week and not! Makes me intent to do the same this summer once the weather is better

Its threads like this that give me the much needed inspiriation to finish my project when things aren't going to plan.
