Default Lydden Hill rallycross pics - new vids added (02/04/'05)

Was a great day (again) and the weather managed to hold out for us too!

New camcorder footage is now added (right click and save target as):

20Mb - Supercar Final

15Mb - Super Modified Heat 2

13Mb - Super Modified Heat 3

Lots of lovely cars both on track and parked up

Gartrac Escort giving it stick on the track

Ex European Rallycross Championship winning Citroen Xsara (I'm assuming it's ex-WRC, it's fast as hell!)

A Ford Puma with extremely boat-like suspension (we thought it might be a ploy to get extra advertising space on the underside but I think it might have been running dirt/gravel suspension seeing as most of the cars competing are ex-rally cars).

Pat Doran getting ready to set off for a supercar round in the new Mk6 Fiesta - was a real shame that it wasn't running properly for most of the day

Julian Godfrey's daily driver! (his business is advertised on practically every single rallycross car there!)

Will Gollop getting ready to set off too

Extremely fast Nova!

Renault Clio V6 (on the outside - tubular spaceframe on the inside)

Lotus Elise lining up to enter the track

This XR2 has many battle scars including scabby front roof from where it was flipped over last season (I remember watching it happen and caught it on video! ) - still going strong if outclassed by the Pug 205 1.6s

Nice looking XR2i that was later seen mixing it up with the Pug 205 1.6 GTi's (sadly more at the back of the pack than the front)

Will Gollop trying to determine why the oil light came on when going round in his first heat of the day ooh: :aviator:

Check out the manifold!

I wonder if that actually holds the rear down? We watched this car enter and it's got a turbo lump - just not sure if it's 4wd or fwd (not that there's much difference with the Vauxhalls - the 4wd only kicks in on full throttle, the rest of the time it's fwd!).

Nice Lancia Delta

Loved this mk2 - Retro motorsport tuned, had all the goodies in the right place (we saw it leave and reckon it's a tuned pinto lump under the bonnet )

Jonosi's Si Turbo - this has to be one of the cleanest most car park dent free Fiesta Si's I've seen! 8)

My mate Neil's RS2000 4x4

Check the brakes on this car out (Dermot Carnegie's Cossie Focus)

Nice install!

Beasty Metro 6R4 - loudest car of the day by far!

Mental go-kart on show (probably being used on the track at quiet times over the weekend  ) - check out the LCD speedo on the wheel! :aaah:

The mother of all motorhomes 8)

With wonky dtm exhaust!

Do you reckon he's peed off with Neil taking this pic?

Pat Doran's Fiesta mk6 in action

Supercar race

In case we had forgotten!

Super modifieds

Renault Clio V6 getting it very wrong!

FiescosDan's mental 4x4 Cosworth powered Fiesta - with R&D 6 speed gearbox (geared for a theoretical top speed of 180+ :aaah: ) - very nice bloke too, was good to meet ya dude :aviator:

Xsara chasing Will Gollop

This is what happens when you repeatedly hang the tail out too hard round bends in a high bhp 4wd rallycross car - the tyres pop!

Victory for Will Gollop!

Was a great day - thanks to Neil for driving and taking the pics (I did the video).

Hope you enjoy the pics - the complete set can be found here:

Lydden Hill Photobucket directory

More of you should really come to this event - it's a great day out for a tenner

Cheers,

Andy

Thanks for the comments guys - I'll pass them on to Neil who took all the pics!

Cossiemen - I'm not sure if there are going to be any rounds in Belgium or not but there is big talk of Will Gollop and Pat Doran entering into the new European rallycross series which will be doing the rounds so you should be able to see some of these motors in action not too far from you soon!

It sure is - he was telling me about some of the GPS recorded speeds he's been getting on a 'private test-track' and it made me feel very inferior when talking about my 1.9 FRST!

I'm gonna try and make the trip up to the pod to see it run up the strip in the not too distant future

I'll get working on the video footage I've got soon too

Cheers,

Andy

The caption is for the pic below of the Calibra that entered the car park - the pic you've quoted is Will Gollop's Focus engine bay!

As for the information about Vauxhall - I heard it from a friend of mine who has had loads of Vauxhalls in his time, he could be wrong and it could be my bad for passing on third-hand information!

I was talking about the car's back in the days of the proper Calibra and Cavalier Turbo 4x4s, as far as I was aware the car only ran 4wd at certain rpm, but that probably turns out to be utter tosh!

Thanks for the comments mate.

Cheers,

Andy

Fair point!

I think it came about when I asked said local Vauxhall 'expert' why the Cav's and Calibras had to rotate the tyres around so much to prevent transmission damage compared to Ford's 4x4 cars. So it must be due to the transmission on them being at a stretch as standard so if front or rear is running less tyre drag than the other it can damage it?

Anyway - thanks for the comments - I'll add the videos this evening (all going well with the editing!)

First vid added - right click and save target as (15Mb):

[Dead-link]Supercar Heat 3

All the vids are downsized - I'll upload the second for the day and will remove the old ones and put new ones up (I've only got limited webspace).

Cheers,

Andy

Thanks mate - as you can hear in that video (Supercar Heat 3) it even drowns out the anti-lag on the other cars (and it's not even a Turbo! ).

New vids are now uploaded

Right click and save target as:

15Mb - Supercar heat 1

14Mb - Supercar heat 4

14Mb - Supercar heat 5

I'll do the same with these as I did with the last lot, I'll leave them up for a couple of days and then replace them with the rest.

Enjoy!
