Ok ok ok....
I have to update this thread due to a combination of boredom and OCD.
I took my car to a place called racetech in Sheffield, to get a con-rod upgrade. I chose racetech because they had an offer over on the MLR.
This turned out to be a mistake.
Anyways, the rod upgrade was a no go, and a full rebuild was needed. Sadly, I let racetech do the build. After 5 months of being screwed about I went and collected the car...
I hired a flat bed truck, which was great value!
Got down there and collected the car, which was now running, a bit...
So, to cut a very very long story short, racetech are pish. But at least the car was home. The engine is now a forged 2.0 long rod, but sadly I have ZERO paperwork for it. I think the spec is
85.5 CP Pistons
Manley Rods
Rebuilt head with new valves etc ARP stud kit.
Balance Shaft Delete
New oil pump
All new gaskets, OEM Evo 9 Headgasket (its that or a cosworth one, I cant remember..)
Rebuilt Stock TME Turbo
Ground and polished crank.
Kelford 264's with Piper adjustable pulleys.
New belts etc
So, started the running in process. Tried to do 100 miles to break the bearings in. Managed 64 before all the oil, water, fuel, power steering fluid and brake fluid was gone...
Started fixing the leaks. There was fuckign loads of them...
£124 later I started again. Car runs like shit and won't idle because the cooling water pipes to the throttle body and inlet manifold are missing.
So, I put my indicators on to cheer myself up.
Managed to get a few miles on it. Changed the oil again.
Then, as Evo's rust faster than Lancias these days, I decided to protect the underside before I started the 500 mile running in period as it was now winter and the roads were all salted up.
The Before pics. As you can see, there was some surface rust appearing after only 3000 miles, and only 100 winter miles!!
Underside was then painted with Rust Bullet, seam sealed and then given 3 coats of U-Pol gravitex.
Then built back up.
Then I decided to go back to OEM looks. I don't know why, it just popped into my head one day

I decided to put some stripes on it.
I was properly ****ting bricks about this job, as I had never done anything like this before.
I shouldn't have worried though, the instructions that FCM supplied me in the kit were totally spot on! Following the instructions made it a very very simple job. I had ALL the decals applied in 45 minutes. :thumb:
The trick is to keep them wet, and not to squeeze the water out until you have lined up the stripe on the next panel. I kept them all wet until I had applied all the stripes and then squeezed them out one by one.
I think it looks utterly awesome. Loving the new OEM looks... :thumb:
Some photos!!
I also fitted my replacement TME decal. All the way from Japan
I then had to get something done about the tyres. The OEM wheels had autogrips on them, which the importer fitted to get it through it's MOT. They were hopeless!! ZERO grip. So, got them off, got some Michelins on and got some running in miles on the engine.

So, what's next? Well, needs mapping. Badly. As it runs really badly right now. But at least it runs, which is a step up from where it was.
So, plans are to get it mapped. And then actually use it! And change the suspension as the BC coilovers are terrible.... Quite fancy Ohlins, but the £2500 is slightly off putting. Might go for some VF Sachs coilovers at £1700 instead.
Who said Jap was reliable?

Aye, my own fault for not getting a proper engine builder to build the engine....
I've spent that much on the car now, that it's now worth half of what I've spent So, I've got no choice but to keep it till I die

Warren... Go wash your mouth out.
One of my greatest fears in life is that I die, and my wife sells the car and all my parts for what I told her they cost....

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
Really nice car. Looks better with the decals, but I do prefer the rotas.
Who's getting the job of mapping? Performance HQ in Dalgety bay seem to have a never ending supply of evos to work on (I pass it going to work)

Cheers buddy. As summer is coming it'll be time for another set of wheels.
Going to stick with 17x9, but can't decide between Rota Grid Drift, or Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2.....
Options are limited in 17x9 sadly...
